Looking for an early 880SP.
Can anyone here tell me how to tell the the early models from later?
Years made, ect?
Have seen some marked "1st production run"
Does that mean much on these?
1st 100? 1st 1000? 1st 10,000?:)

Thanks!

Dunno about the years made or if they used date stamps for each of those years...but mine has the 2007 tang stamp (which certainly means it was close to, or is, the Last Prod Run :().

My other Buck Striders also exhibit various year stamps, so I'm guessing it is likely that the 880 has always had 'em.

IF they all used date stamps on the tang, then you're set to go :)
Here is a link that has a "cheat sheet" put together by "The Bear Claw Formerly Known as TLC" (thank you again TLC) to ID the Buck mfg years: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5291379#post5291379

The 880SP is my favorite EDC (at least for now ;)).

The knives marked first production run were BG-42 steel, other than that they are the same as later models....... ( I thought)

Why are you looking for an early one? I have no idea on the years they were made either but The BG-42 knives were pretty limited. You can find them though! Good luck.

I love my mid production ATS-34 880SP ;)

"Why are you looking for an early one?"

Just to add to my collection. (Thrill of the chase?)
There were 500 marked "1st production run"
So it should be fairly easy to find. If not I will but a regular model.
I know they were blowing 'em out for like $89.00 at one point and they can still be found NIB for a little over $115.00. So, an early one just makes the hunt a bit more fun.
If it fails, I will just buy one. New or used.:D

Describe "fairly easy" to me :D LOL
You may be able to find a newer one for around 100.00 but a first production run with BG-42 blade... probably not. Although the way knife prices seem to be going maybe gas is more important and they will come down a tad.
I would definately watch online and check the Buck sale threads here on blade forums. One will pop up sooner or later! Good luck!

Oh...so your a collector? Nuff said. That pretty much explains most everything guys like us do when it comes to knives. Well your amoungst friends here MCM. :D

Thanks guys.
Been collecting Microtechs for the past 8 yrs.
Now looking to fill in some of the gaps with a few select production folders.
Certain Bucks, BM's, etc.
If anything turns up, e-mail me at Modenaro@aol.com

Thanks again.
Glad you guys understand.:D

Have not handled one in yrs.
Can someone post a pic of the linerlock on the 880?
Am hoping its not a thin one...............
Thanks!

Thanks!
Growing impatient here.......
Might just have to pop for a late 07.
(As soon as I do, the flood gates will open with 1st prod runs) LOL LOL
Does $115.00 seems fair for a NIB 07 these days?
The newer ones had a change to the model number, what changed?

& Thanks again for the pic!

Can anyone tell me why newer models were marked "880BKSSP"
Rather than 880SP? What was the change?
Thanks

Where do you see that? My 880SP is a 2007 and the box says 880SP.
