I recently picked up a medium stockman that says Sword Brand on one side of the main blade tang. On the other side is Camillus
883
U.S.A.
The handles are wood of some sort (birch or walnut?) with a slight palm swell. Anyone know the approximate age of this & what steel was used? Are they still made? Thanks.

Mick,
Consulting a 1990 and a 1993 Camillus catalog, I find your knife listed with the 'Woodcraft' series. Described as a stock knife, 3 1/4", with the standard three blades. Nickle silver bolsters, 440 stainless steel blades and pins. The handles are described as 'premium hardwood' and 'laminated wood'. It LOOKS to me like birch, the grain nice and tight and uniform, like the stock of one of my Ruger 1022 rifles. Only my opinion that.

Here is something odd I just noticed. The 1990 catalog (shown below) shows the knives with no visible pns. The 1993 catalog shows the same knives WITH the pins visible. What is your knife like???

There is a link to the Camillus web page at the top of this page. I do not see the Woodcraft line offered.

CAMCO will return to us with more info Hope this helps.

Phil

Thanks for the info Phil. I'm prettty sure the wood is birch. It's matched nicely on both sides & the slight palm swell gives it a nice touch. I'm at work & don't have the knife with me, but I'm 99% sure the pins are visable. It's a very nice knife & in excellent condition. I was in a gun shop & the guy had it in the display case with other knives. At first glance, I thought it was gonna be a Chinese something or other, especially with the palm swell in the handles. It was a pleasant surprise to see Camillus on the tang. It's well made & definitely worth the $15 the guy wanted for it. Your pic on the right is the knife. Thanks again for the info Phil...much appreciated.
