Has anyone taken the time to figure out how the Shockey line that Cabela's is selling compares to the normal line?

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t.../en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0

Looks like 2 Bucklite Max's in 112 and 110 size, and Ecolite 112, Hartsook/Smidgen, and 2 others that I don't know.

I think the pics are wrong, none look like diamond wood to me but several of them say they are. Are they diamondwood, or what is pictured?

I see that some of them come with a sharpener which is nice but they don't say much about it as far as maker, etc.

Black coating on the blade with a man's profile on it. Other than that any big differences that make them stand out from the std models? Same steel as regular models?

Also, any idea where they got the names?!?!?! Confuses this old hillbilly when they do wild things like that.

me toooo...
brain is tired ... cant think ...
doc said i could not drink from my jar....

Mini mentor and Juno, I believe are the other 2.
They look like TiaN? coated blades? Most of those models are 420HC I believe in regular version.

Kinda neat knives, but I will pass, I like Jim Shockey and all, but just not my cup o tea I guess... As far as names, I guess Mr. Shockey named them after some critters. :D Cabelas does a fairly poor job at telling what model is what! Lump them all together? :(

Yeah, I can see them in the Bargain Cave quick if they don't clear up the write up some and explain why they are worth $X more than a std model.

The sheaths are different per the write up, maybe they hold the sharpener, that could be a selling point. However, they need to tell you.

Or, it gives me a reason to stop when I get near one. However, that is a rare event for me these days.

I don't think those are aluminum-titanium-nitride. Cabelas saves that for the premium line, the Alaskan Guide series. I think those are just an oxide coating

I like the Black handle Ecolite 112, (looks black)... Not the price... What ever that is... I guess the red and green handle ones will have to do...

The Shockey knives were in a profile in Blade or Knives Illustrated. The article said they were "designed" by Jim Shockey. I was thinking at the time it was a bunch of crap.

I only want to know one thing. Who the hell is Jim Shockly?
Is he a distant relative of the famous J.C. Higgins of Sears fame?:D

Jim Shockey is a famous hunting guide and writer Dave! He is also very good with marketing hunting items! I love my Jim Shockey Pro Gold Pioneer powder for my muzzleloader :D Sorry, I dont own any of "his" Bucks though ;) He's very down to earth. :)

Too much Hollywood for me. I generally don't recommend black or a red bandana for hunting....Have enjoyed watching some of the moose hunts where the bull charges.....300

I looked at them again when I was at Cabela's last weekend. I like them but it's sort of like charging me a $1 extra for a Budweiser since it has some NASCAR guy on the can. Doesn't change the Bud any, just costs me more.

The black blade will interest some and the sharpener may be a selling point for some but neither interest me in this case.

This is what I was thinking too. Are they "upgraded steel" though, or the same as original models? I thought that may have been a difference also?

I also like to watch the hunting shows with Jim Shockey. Late last year I saw him do a short bit on his show about the Cableas/Buck/Shockey knives. "Cool" I said, then when I finally saw them....well disappointed sums it up. Partnering with a Guide/Outfitter and put out your same knives, call them new and charge twice what they are worth. LOL, they can keep them.

The super catalog shows them as having Sandvic 12C27M SS blades and have Jim Shockeys logo on the blade blade. Wonder if you guys will try to wipe his logo off like the AG logo ;).
