A friend of mine has a knife he considering selling. I'm not positive, but I believe it to be a straight handled Steel Heart II. Is there a guide somewhere that will help identify the model and what type of steel was used in it? Assuming it is a SH2, small scuffs in finish near tip from sheath, never used or sharpened, without box, but with factory sheath; what would be a fair selling price?

Hello Jagged,
Chips right a pic would help a lot.

But if that's not possible, give us a little more info. Especially regarding the Handle(ie handle fasteners, type of pommel) and then measure the blade and make sure it is a SHII and maybe not a SHI he has.

Let us know and I'm sure we can give you some ballpark estimates.

Ah, the straight handled Steel Heart. Don't get sucked into that one. There was a myth created long ago about Busse making straight handled Steel Hearts. Supposedly he made them out of A2 before switching to INFI and rumor has it that there were even some made out of 5/16th" stock. Beware, these are likely fakes akin to the Rojex watches and Luis Baton luggage. The guys above are just jerking your chain when they inquire about handles, pommels and fasteners, Don't fall for it. They are just looking for humor at your expense. I, on the other hand, will give you the straight (pun?) scoop and then you will not be ignorant, like so many others about these so called straight handled knives.

Fortunatley for you however, is the fact that I am, foolish though it may seem, a collector of faux Busse memorobilia and related nonesense. Accordingly I would be willing to purchase the sh/SH and would generously give you the present scrap value, by weight of course, for pot metal. This is assuming it is in mint condition, there was a sheath or three and you would have to absorb the shipping.

Lucky for you I caught this post before these other guys really got to you.;)

I wonder if it could be one of the infamous straight handled 5/16th
Bird Beaked Limited Edition Nimrod Special Edition INFI Steel Heart, otherwise known as the ISH516BBLENSEISH:confused: ;) :D :p :p

I've never posted a picture before, so may need directions if a picture didn't show up with this post.

Knife is about 13 1/4 inches total in length.
The blade (from handle slab to tip) is approximately 8 inches with the edge portion being approximately 7 inches.
Knife is about 1/4 inch thick.
Blade has a smooth black coating. No coating on the spine.
It is approximately 4 1/2 inches to center of the holes that extend downward from handle at butt and guard.
Handle is a grayish black stuff. Not sure if G10 or rough textured micarta (my micarta handles on other knives are all smooth).
Has three straight gray colored screws on each side.
The area between the screws is somewhat indented and rippled.
If the picture shows up above, I'll post one of just the handle.
Kydex sheath with neat feature that will let you quick detach most of sheath from belt.
I think a friend of my friend bought it from Busse at a show a few years ago for $330, but can't swear to that.
Does this help?
I like the responses! :D

O.K. It didn't work. I was afraid of that... I have the picture on my disk, but not anywhere on the internet. How do I upload it and to where can I upload it?

Jagged,
You have to be a Premium or Gold member to post pics from
your hard drive. You would have to find a photo hosting site
for your pics. I use Imagestation, but you will have to link your
pics from there. Here is their address

http://www.imagestation.com/

If you like, you can email your pic to me and I'll post it for you.

Chip:

Good advice. It and the sheath look exactly like SH23 - Hdiller's Steel Heart II in INFI on the http://www.badmojo.tv/ website.

It has never cut anything, but has a few slight blemishes towards the tip which I presume are from the sheath. Any idea what it is worth?

Thanks!

Jeff :)

Jeff,
I would say somewhere between $450 and $550. Maybe some
of the more experienced Busse collectors will chime in.:D

Chip:

I signed up and then uploaded the images to imagestation, but can't quickly figure out how to fix so everyone can view. I have a major project that I have to have done in early a.m. and I've barely started so I can't spend more time trying yet tonight. I will try to figure out what I'm doing wrong later this week.

I am thinking about buying the knife with possibility of reselling so all info on price is very appreciated.

Thanks for all your help!

One just like it has been sitting on Bladeart for a while at $600.

Chip's about dead on IMHO, unless there is something that puts this one in the rare category.

Jeff,

You said it is "about 1/4 inch thick" - measure it closely, because there are some 9/32" & 5/16" versions, but probably only Jerry knows about how many of these exist.

I would also agree the $450-$550 sounds about right, or maybe a little more, depending on condition and other factors such as the thickness or something else that might make it a less common variety.
