Just thought itll be interesting to see If you guys have folders that have unnoticeable bladeplay in.

Im assuming humans will use a knife in different actions and open a folder differently, this should mean sometimes a knife model others will get blade play in someone else might not, or an individual will have a model of knife that has an increased blade play life expectancy than soneone else with the same model.

With that said, perhaps some folding knife models are given blade play without realising it, so if you have a folder that hasnt got blade play perhaps you could mention how you deploy the blade and what youve used that Knife model on this could help increase the life expectancy of your edc etc.

Other than that, you could always list models youve "personally" had and used and noticed really quite unnoticeable blade play in.

Might sound odd, and alot of people will prob look at me funny, but Gerber Icon, locks up like its welded shut.

Suprisingly my manix 2 translucent blue. Pin construction and still bank vault lockup.

If my new knife had blade play or lock rock, or developed it soon after purchase, I'd get rid of it or send it back to the manufacturer.
I do not accept it, although I don't feel that it's dangerous. Others may not be bothered by it.

Its weird companys accept returns like that.
No matter what, a knife will get bladeplay someday unless the touching steels are of comparable hardness or a has tri ad lock, which both degenerates at some point too although the steel inserts on some lock ups can be changed like the lionspy , correcting any bladeplay, the bladeplay on the lionspy could probably be warrentied a lifetime due to that.

Well, I don't think any of my 30 or so folders have blade play that can't be adjusted out with a 1/16th turn of the pivot, as for models that have no blade play that have never had to be adjusted it would be...
5 Spyderco PM2s (all sprint runs)
3 Spyderco Militaries 1 frame lock, 2 liner lock (all sprint runs
5 Manix 2s
BM 805, 806, 810, 552
hmmm, it might be easier to just post a picture and list which do have blade play after a bit that I have to adjust out every once in awhile...

Any quality liner-lock I've had would lock-up without play. (Kershaw, Microtech, Spyderco)
Any quality lockback I've had would have vertical play. (Spyderco, Buck)
My only axis-lock (585) had vertical play. (Benchmade)
My only Tri-Ad lock is without play. (Cold Steel)

Play or not, they were all still dependable, in my experience.

(When I test for play, I use as much pressure as my grip safely allows.)

I can muscle a TINY bit of play out of all of my folders except my zt 0350 and my Benchmade 730-1202. It all comes down to how much wiggle you can put up with. Try hard enough and you can get blade play out of almost every folding knife. None of my knives have any play that is apparent in regular use or under normal circumstances, but look hard enough and it's there. I suspect the folks that say "all my knives are rock solid" are either lying (because it's easy to be a super cool tough guy on the Internet) or they aren't looking hard enough.

ZT 0350, CS Spartan, CS Ti Lite, Spydie Tenacious x2, Kershaw Crown, and the Kershaw Leek. No noticeable blade play with any of them, unless you're trying to force the blade into moving.

What do you mean by that?

When people grab the blade near the tip, then try with all their might to get it to move a bit, then come here to complain how their unused, never sharpened knife is "broken."

Exactly, like I said, if you look hard enough, almost every folder will have a tiny bit of wiggle, it's just the nature of moving parts.

When I test for play, I grab the blade at the point where I can get the most leverage, grip it tight, and pull and push as hard as I safely can.

How do you test for play?

I've never broken or damaged a knife using this method, so I don't consider it abuse or anything near it.

I would think the opposite is true. If your lock was a softer steel, it would eventually wear/conform to the contact area with the blade. So titanium framelocks would (eventually) have solid lockups. Of course, this is just my theory.

This is what I was trying to describe, heres a link to spyderco followed by a quote on the mechanism.

http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=720

the LionSpy’s R.I.L. mechanism features a hardened steel insert that interfaces with the ramp on the blade. This ensures that the mating parts have comparable hardnesses and increases both the strength and service life of the knife.

I think it may mean a harder material may hammer at the weaker.

My EDC for the last 14 + years is a small Sebenza. There is not a hint of blade play. It is adjustable, but I have never had to mess with it.

You get what you pay for. (and usually less. ;))

Out of my bunch I have two with absolutely zero blade blade. My Umnumzaan and Spyderco Liospy. I have a bunch of others, Microtech, Strider, Benchmade that you can force some blade play out of but it isn't noticeable unless you are trying to make it happen.
