I'm looking for a moderate sized fixed blade:

2-3 inch blade

3 1/2 to 4 inch handle

This is for light household use, so steel is not critical.

Two other specs:

budget is about $50. Can go a little higher, preferably lower.

Not interested in Moras. Nothing against them, just don't rock my boat.

Your suggestions?

I like the Izula 2 but I think it's just outside your budget. Becker is also good.

The following Kabar Beckers::

BK13 at 2 1/4" OA 5 1/8" about $20 from tomar (BF supporter)

BK14 at 3 1/4" OA 7" about $37 from tomar

BK24 is the same knife in D2 steel - about $46 from tomar

and last but not least, both longer than specified and out of preferred budget level, but a dang good all-round kitchen knife

BK16 at 4 3/8" OA 9 1/4" about $65 from tomar

I'm thinking about the Beckers, but would prefer something in a clip point, or at least with a thinner blade.

Overbudget, but nice.
DFB028 Drop point skinner $96.00
6.5 cm 12C27 S/S 3.0 mm thick, hollow ground, full tang, timber scales

I would stick with USA made, and the best out there depending on what blade shape and your intended use you these are my suggestions in no order,
If your set on the 2-3 inch blade
ESSE Izula can be found for $39.99 if you look.
ESEE Izula 2
ESEE Candru
Becker BK14 Eskabar. Kabar Remora
Kershaw Mini skinner
Buck paklite series.
If you think you might want a bigger knife and blade
Kershaw Diskin Hunter, Packrat, Skyline
Buck has the Ergohunter Avid and Ergoboning Avid knife, and can be found for good deals right now could get both for $50
Becker BK16, can be found on sale for $46 shipped from a big hunting retailer

Condor tool and knife might have some stuff for you. Also if your into tinkering try moding an Old Hickory Knife by Ontario knife company. Great value and the satisfaction of completing a successful project is always nice.

The little Becker line, or how about looking into Mora's line? They are cheap, and very well made!

A.G Russel Woods Walker , or the slightly larger Bird and Trout. It's worth browsing through his web site. The man is a legend in the knife world.

Boker Plus Rambler $30 440C stainless Blue/Black G10 scales
attractive small little fixed blade. use the leftover budget to get a custom sheath of your choice.

Definitely the ESEE Izula. Small enough to throw in your pocket, and light enough to wear around you neck, but enough of a knife to work with.

I'm thinking about the Beckers, but would prefer something in a clip point, or at least with a thinner blade.

There's also the BK17 with a clip point. Same size and price as the BK16, which is a drop point. The BK15 is an inch longer, same price, trailing point. All are officially .188" in thickness. I think they may actually be thinner, but I'm not sure. I saw somewhere that they may be as thin as .165". I have a 16 and a 17 but no micrometer to measure them.

I made a mistake in describing what I was looking for. Not how thick the blade is, but the width (distance from the top of the blade to the edge). I'm looking for a blade narrower and more ponted than the otherwise excellent Beckers, but with the same overall dimensions I posted originally: 2-3 inch blade, 3 1/2 to 4 inch handle.

I'm looking for something like the Ontario Ranger Series Neck Knife 2-3/4" Blade, Stainless Steel Handle, except with a handle:

Thanks for all the ideas. Now that I've done a better job explaining what I'm looking for, keep 'em coming.
