Hi, I was wondering what the specific rules were on offering your services on the forums; I know you are not supposed to directly promote yourself or your work in a thread (at least from my interpretation of the rules), but I make leather sheaths, as well as a custom knife now and then, and have been doing handling jobs for the spyderco mule blades and I don't have a website up yet to show my work or promote myself. I was wondering if it is allowed to offer services in a certain thread where the person mentions that they are looking for something; example, say someone mentioning that they are wanting a leather sheath for a knife that they have, can you then put in the thread that you make sheaths and to send you a PM if they are interested?

Also I was wondering if it would be possible to add something like a Services Offered subforum to one of the sale areas so that there would be a particular spot that we could offer our services and not be in violation of the rules. I know myself that I sometimes have trouble finding someone to make kydex sheaths for me and it would help to just be able to look in a subforum like that and find people that did it. Just figured it couldn't hurt to ask anyways...

Get a Platinum Membership. Then you can post in the Knifemaker for sale area and you can give yourself a custom user title, Sheathmaker or your business name or whatever you like, and put your website in your sig. Read General Blade Discussion a while and you'll see how the other sheathmakers respond to questions.

Could a "what we do" thread be stickied at the knifemaker forum? No chatting in that one, but knifemakers/platinum members (not me, lol) could post a couple specifics on what they do. Maybe also link to threads in gallery sub-forums for pics of their work. Contact info should already be in profiles and maybe sig lines. Other members looking for a maker could search that specific thread.

I guess the only issue is if their info could stay up if they let membership lapse.

good idea hardheart. a new member needed some knives sharpened and just happened to see that i offer that type of service but only after going to my website.
