Just finished this one up for a customer. Still need to make the sheath. Tossing around a couple of ideas on that. It's 15" overall with a 9 3/4" blade, 1/4" thick by 1 3/4" O1 steel. Fat elk scales. Elk is real hard to come by anymore.

Hello,

That thing looks damn nice!!!! Clean, simple, and classic all at once. Whats the weight on that girl???

Great blade,

Chris

WOW! I REALLY like that! Excellent work and congratulations to whoever is the lucky one that will be receiving that sweet bowie!

Hey Scott, I didn't know elk was so hard to come by. I go elk hunting twice a year and I do it for the food/sport and not for a head on my wall. If you'd like I could donate (or maybe partial trade for a knife :D) a rack or two if I bag one next time I go.

Let me know,

Tony

Tony, it's hard for me to find is what I meant. There was a guy who use to have a good selction of pieces that set up at trade shows. I haven't seen him around for quite sometime. Of course, I don't make as many shows as I use too. I'm sure there is plenty of elk racks around, it's just I haven't seen many people selling them. Plus elk racks have gotten very expensive just like sambar stag.
One thing about elk antler just like most American antlered species is that the bone density varies alot. If there is too much pith/pourous material, it's worthless for knife handles. That's why I have to hand pic it.

Now that's old school. Harkins back to a day when the knife did everything from cooking, to crafting, to wood getting game prep to fighting. Nice work, brother.

It sure was amazing what those men during the fur trapper era could do with a large knife. It handled everything they needed done while in the mountains.

Here's the sheath. I went traditional since I couldn't do my typical pouch. The handle is too big for a pouch type.
