After seeing the new "ultimate kit" photos I was inspired. So I did a little kit work this morning. Hope you guys and gals "luckykitty" enjoy:

Out side of the kit, the container is just an old Diabetic meter carrier I used to use, as I am no longer a Type II Diabetic, thanks to God :)
There is still a loop directly to the right you see that can be used for a match holder or one of those scrape magnesium style fire starters.

Opening the outside pouch, which is held by velcro, we see a small waterproof bag with dryer lint :)
some of the best tinder made by man :)

Unzipping we see the inside.

And with a closer look we see:

Several alcohol prep pads for tinder.
(Special note, I have used these and they do work well, but if you have wet tinder or kindling it is VERY HARD to get anything started, been there also).

(Special note, this is just a cheap lighter, I bought a huge bag for $1 at a dollar store, you DO NOT want to use cheap lighters THEY WILL LET YOU DOWN.
I know this because several of them fell apart when I used a lighter to melt the ends on some nylon rope. What happens is the metal end gets hot and starts to warp and then comes off, thus, you can't use it. Also if your hands are wet the cheap ones won't work).

GET A GOOD BIC BRAND LIGHTER

We also see the RAT Fire Kit :) and some standard NATO waterproof/windproof matches.

I just break things down to modern and primitive. Primitive being flint & steel, using char cloth as tinder. Using a Bow drill and Hand drill, fire piston as well as a few others methods.

This is perfect to put into a haversack or pack. It would also go well in home kit or car kit.

Of course depending on your outlook, Light My Fire Maya dust could go either primitive or modern :).

This kit was a modern kit, I hope you guys enjoyed

:)

nice ... I was eyeballing my grandma's diabetic metre pouch before, but she still needs hers. So I'll try something different ...

Alcohol prep pads do work GREAT. I have used them successfully.

The only time they don't work that great is when you have wet kindling / additinal tinder, then it is like Mr. Randall says, it is VERY hard to get any kind of fire going in a wet environment.

Took me over 30 minutes to get a fire going once in a wet environment.
Hand sanatizer works good to, but again, in a wet environment, it is hard to do as well.

Cotton balls soaked in vasoline works well for fire tinder. The best lighter I have used is those with electronic ignition rather than flint.
