Not sure what this one is, exactly, but I like it. :)

Steel: O1 ground, not forged

Blade length: 14-1/4"

Total length: 20 3/8"

Blade thickness: 1/4"

Handle material: black canvas micarta

Thanks for looking,
Phillip

Phillip I sent you an email.... Dunno if you got it. Very cool blade by the way. I dig the celtic leaf shaped blades. They are very practical and very dangerous.

Looks more Celtic or early Greek than Roman (gladius) to me. You could just send it to me for 15 years of testing, no charge for my services :-)
I like the organic shape that "leaf" blades have. The Kama and Kinjal are the straight blade cousin to this one.

Very nice blade! I especially like the clean lines and proportion! What did you base this design off of, it is an interesting mix of blade styles (that is meant in a good way).

I will have to check out more of your work; although that might be detrimental to my bank account!
Seriously I have been looking for a Gladius style sword but had not seen one other than one of the period pieces that I believe Windlass puts out and that is why I HAD still been looking!

Seriously though I will check out your website, that piece is exactly my style, "clean" and built with a purpose. I will be in touch and thanks for posting!

Once again beautiful blade and craftsmanship!:thumbup:

That is a beautiful piece of work! I don't care what you call it...

The very early forms of the Gladius could have looked similar to this in blade shape however the later ones were straight with a sharpish point for thrusting.

Regardless of what you want to call it, it's a very nice piece of work, clean and pleasing to look at. Well done!

Phillip, you did an awsome job. That is very inspiring. I love it the way it is but I think it would be even cooler with a hidden tang, hilt and pommel. I just like traditional when it comes to swords. Someday, I hope I can make something like this.

I'd Call it "Tactical Gladius":D I think it looks great clean crisp lines and nothing getting in the way of them!

I love the slickness of it's profile. And the grind line looks proportionately well balance

Unluckily this sort of double edge blade is no way to enter my country :(

Phillip, I guess I'll need you to forge a scottish dirk with a false edge and fileworks, and it has chance to be delivered to me

Thanks for showing :)

YES!!!
Tactical short swords are awesome!
I want, I NEED, I......can't afford....... :(.

A "Turk's Head" knot guard would make me feel a little less timid about my hand slipping forward on to the edges. Plus it'd be "tactical celtic knotwork" furthering the Tactical Celtic motif.

Hi David,
The blade shape is inspired by a pattern welded leaf sword that Kevin Cashen made, and the handle is just what I came up with when I sat down with paper and pencil. I wanted to make a "user" version of this sword:

Looking forward to hearing from you, and thanks!

Thanks! I actually have a leaf dagger I started several months ago. I was thinking of finishing it and selling it as a set with this blade. Just need time...

You mean like this:

Ray, I'm sure you could make something like this, no problem. It just takes a little practice and a lot of patience to do the sweeping plunge grinds...
The rest is pretty straightforward knifemaking. Try it!

I'm currently in the design stage for a bigger sword, for which I was planning on doing the turk's head knot deal. I have no idea how to tie them, though. Anybody have a link to a tutorial or something?

Thanks to everyone for your compliments! Your continued support is much appreciated. :)

sweet blade phillip. i need to set up the computer on the kitchen table and show dad your latest knives.

Phillip, that has got to be about one of the coolest knives that I have ever seen. Great looking pattern. This one will probably be a best seller for you.
