Alrighty folks, Mighty1 was kind enough to send me out his Camillus BK2 serrated, and I wanted to see how it would compare physically to the Kabar Gen 2 BK2. Here are the pics.

And there you have it. The Camillus BK2 is much thinner than the current offering by Kabar. So for those that think the current BK2 is too thick, you might try to track down an older model, they are thinner and lighter. The coating seems very different, although without some extensive use I wouldn't be able to tell you anything other than it looks less bomb proof. Handle scales are the old school Camillus grivory, and as we all know, they are much more hand filling for those with the giant bear hands.

All in all a good knife, and definitely an option for those that are not really satisfied with the current BK2. I myself still prefer the newer one though. Sharpened prybah for the win!

They are thinner. I still have a couple of the Camillus plain-edge BK-2's, plus one of the serrated versions shown above.
But the grinds aren't as good/symmetrical. On all of my Camillus versions, the sabre grind is uneven when you compare one side of the knife with the other.
Note too how, in the spine shots, the Camillus tang seems to be rounded off instead of nice and squared off. That lack of finish is common with the Camillus knives as well.

This may sound odd, but aesthetically, I miss the hammer-pommel, but dig the more textured blade coating (I know that smoother is better for functionality.) Good to see them both side-by-side like that.

Thanks for sharing,I didn't know how much thinner the camillus produce blades were...

now if you happen to obtain the prior to camillus models, they had full thickness, and yet different grinds, and a few different coatings ;)

the Camillus coating stuff is pretty tough. it wears from rough to smooth, and takes a LONG time to wear off. strange stuff.

the original coatings at CinCin do not come off. hard-chrome - smooth and lubricious. permanent. eventually you'll just wear into steel, and the only way you'll know is MAYBE a patina, or rust in salt water. don't count on it. the phosphate-bronze? good lord that's tough stuff. some gun companies even use that as a base coat, and then put ceramics on it (ask Ethan). TOUGH. then the last gen had this epoxy stuff. seems to wear pretty tough though with the right chemicals easily comes off. go figure :)

Thanks for posting this up Derek. I saw this at a local surplus store (and....I got to handle a 7 WOOT!, but still meh for me) and figured it was a once in a lifetime. Nor Cal is not littered with knife supply places, far fewer who stock Beckers (dont even ask about ESEE!).

Not to steal any thunder from this thread, but if anyone else is interested in checking out this for any reason PM me. Mods if you have issue please let me know, or openly scorn me  j/k (please dont...) :D
