Modern knives with a thin blade? Preferably FFG.

I need a knife that will cut and slice easily, no need to chop down a tree or smash rocks in half.

Do you guys and galls have suggestions for folding knives with a thin blade (3 mm/0.118 inches or thinner) preferably a full flat grind. If the blade is quite tall it can be slightly thicker, since it would still be thin behind the edge.

No FRN or similar handle materials. Only modern knives, that means no old Opinels or other traditional knives.

The Spyderco Chapparal is a good option. A bit pricey, but with a 1.9 mm blade thickness it's tempting.

You are definitely looking for a Spyderco. They have the best slicers of any brand ive ever dealt with.My favorite model-which is why i have 5-is the pm2

Spyderco Centofante 3

Not ffg, but a tremendous slicer.

Edit: Ooops. Misread as you were looking for FRN. Disregard....

Kershaw leek isn't ffg but it's pretty darn thin and it's a hell of a slicer. Not to tough on the wallet either.

I was going to recommend the chaparal but I see you're aware of that one. The sog aegis or mini-aegis are also pretty thin blades and they carry well if you're okay with assisted open knives.

I just picked up a CRKT Swindle with 1/8" hollow grind. A "gentleman's" knife, cheap, smooth as silk. I was shockingly impressed.

Boker makes a similar style with carbon fiber scales, but more money of course. Forgot the name.

Spyderco Dragonfly G-10

Good recommendation, can't believe I missed that one above.

That also reminded me that the spyderco cat is a thinner bladed knife. I haven't used it but it seems somewhere between a chap and dragonfly and at a nice price because of the more modest materials.

Consider the spyderco k390 urban sprint - available now. Very similar form factor to the chaparral, 1/2 the price, and awesome steel.
No lock, if that is important to you? Not sure what you mean by modern.

Just have to put in a shout out to the Kershaw Skyline. Finger choil gives great security in hand and blade profile is great for cutting. Kershaw blackwash is second to none. Also wallet-friendly.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Benchmade 531. Not quite FFG but very close. G10 handle and very, very light. At 2.1 oz. you don't really notice it is in your pocket. Swap out the arrow clip for a deep carry and you are set.

REI offers an exclusive model with upgraded steel and green G10 scales. Nice.

Benchmade 531 with G10 handle. Has a 0.090" thick blade of 154CM steel that is 3.25" long. Also has the AXIS lock.

Edit: Sabre Cat beat me to it while I was typing

Immediately thought of the Slysz Bowie.

THIS! Favorite knife, great slicer!

SpydieChef (3mm) is a slightly cheaper option as well.
The Chaparral is worth every penny and you will not be disappointed.
The Spyderco Cat (2.5mm) is a similar size to the Chap and a lot cheaper (though it shows).
The Sage (3mm) is also a good option for something a little more robust.
Tenacious (3mm) is cheap and slicey.
The new Spyderco Effecient (3mm) looks great but I've never used one.
I just got a Kershaw Dividend and its a hell of slicer because its so damn thin (2.5mm).
Kershaw Link does well (2.8mm)
Can't go wrong with a Manix2 (3mm)!

I say go with your gut and get that Chap!

Friggin Spyderco Nilakka. I have the first version without the microbevel. That thing is stupid sharp. The blade isn't paper thin but comes to such an acute edge it is a phenominal slicer.
