Here's what I've been working on while I'm out recovering. I call it the "Modern Nessmuk" and it's now ready for heat treat. It's got a 6" blade of 1/4" thick O-1. The tang is fully tapered down to 3/32". My first attempt at a tapered tang. You can't tell because my scanner is dirty, but I finished it to 1500 grit before heat treat. It only took about 10 hours of hand sanding to get the finish right. The scanner doesn't like shiny surfaces. I'll take pictures of it when I finish it. It's getting Arizona Ironwood scales and brass bolts.

That is gonna be sweet. I like the larger hump on the spine. Nessmuck would be proud!

Thanks guys, I ordered the Arizona Ironwood today from Arizonaironwood.com. They were the only place I found that sells scales in the 1 3/4" width I need for the curved handle of this knife. Great looking wood though, and can't wait to finish it. It went out for heat treat today. I like the hump on the back too, it's a solid 1/4" thick so I can pound stuff with it and it has great weight up front for chopping.

I got my Arizona Ironwood in today for the handle! It's beautiful stuff & I can't wait to finish this thing! It'll be back from the heat treat sometime next week. Thanks for the kind words, and I'll let everyone know when it's finished with some pictures.
Here's my ironwood-
