Is there a modern company that makes a scout/camper model, similar to the older Ulsters and Kutmasters. I know of course SAK, but I'd like carbon steel. I'd like to give my daughter the girl scout Kutmaster I found and a brand new knife to make her own memories with.

Any ideas?

Boker, Rough Rider and Boy Scouts of America (made by ???) all camper patterns but they all use stainless.

Would be very interested to hear if anybody is making them in carbon steel.

FWIW, you can find 4 blade Ulster Boy Scout and 3 blade Camillus Cub Scout knives on auction sites in good shape for under $30.

Bear & Sons makes a scout knife, made is the U.S.A. They also make the Remington Scout knives, I think all in stainless, I think the Bokers are carbon steel. The GS knife you have is probably better quality, the old ones seem to be more solid in build, cruise some flea markets they turn up all the time the 1955-58 imperials BSA I see often they are solid and usually $5-$12, I have my BSA white handled Ulster from late 70s early 80s and it's still as solid as the day my parents bought it for me. I recently bought a Ulster Dwight Divine & Son's 1923-1941 scout in mint condition for $25.Most of the new one I've seen are made in China, Zippofan would probably be the best person to steer you in the right direction for a new scout knife.

i'd go for one of these off ebuy-these both came from the US. The kabar is a beast of a thing I've been using it this month in lieu of a sodbuster which I don't posess.
The Camillus BSA are smaller but just right for a kid(not as young as yours though). There are two kinds . Both have the blue scales. One is like delrin (pictured) and the others are possibly cel -clear with blue underneath. These also exhibit signs of shrinkage at either end but they are still fast. Might even be worth rescaling. A couple of mine were totally filthy when I got them but they live again. If you get stuck finding one ( in the next couple of years ;) . PM me. Pretty sure these are carbon as well. They aren't new new though.
