I wonder if anyone knows a thread in the archive about making "modern" sheaths for functional use of khukuris like the Penknife. I love the sarki sheath, but also want one more compact for field use without the bulk of the Karda and Chakma.
I'm a pretty good leather worker, so that's not my problem. I'm wondering about designs that are innovative and interesting. Any clues???
Thanks,
Brian :)

Terry Sisco makes a quick draw sheath that's great. The ones I've seen are leather over wood, but I think you could go straight leather in the same design if you make a thick enough welt. Look

Here's a khuk and a sheath that I made for it. The khuk is, "an as forged Chainpuri blade." that I took artistic license with. The handle is of African Knobthorn with copper bolster and keeper.:D

Edit:
The leather is 9-10 oz Live Oak equivelent with several thicknesses, about 5, on the back side and two on the edge side first glued and then drilled with a small drill in a Dremel tool so it could be sewn with the double needle method.
The khuk also turned out to be a "balance" model.:D

Pretty spiffy setup, Yvsa. I like the contrast in color between the scabbard and handle. Any chance of a closeup. I would like to see the detail work on the scabbard not to mention the handle. ;)
