Modern Sheath vs Older one

Just thought I'd post a comparison. Modern sheath that came with my new drop point, compared to an older one. Older one came with a three dot 112 I got off eBay a couple years ago. I'm assuming it is the original, so 1980ish?

But I like how the older sheath is cutaway in the front to further expose the knife. Makes it a little more easily accessible. Obviously more broken in, but it also has a little smaller footprint.

I rarely if ever carry a 112 in a sheath (front pocket, usually in a slip), but I might have to find an older sheath for my 110.

All the sheaths that came with my newer Bucks are still in their boxes. I use an old sheath that came with my first 110 & I have another old one for my 112s. Plus, I discovered that the 112 fits perfectly in the much more compact, lighter, nylon sheath that comes with the Leatherman wave.:)

How does the leather thickness compare, between the older and newer sheaths? I'd recently purchased a 102 fixed blade, a pretty small knife. And it occurred to me, the sheath it came with seems overbuilt for it, with heavy leather and a grossly oversized snap loop for the handle - a very loose fit. In looking at it, I found myself wishing the sheath were made with some slightly thinner leather and better sized for the knife.

I can't speak for fixed blades, but the sheaths that came with my newer 110s & 112s are larger than the older ones, and of a softer, more pliable leather. Some may prefer that, but I like my knife sheaths stiffer, more like a gun holster.

I prefer the stiffer made-in-Mexico leather sheaths for the 110/112. I did get the softer brown distressed leather sheath for my Custom Shop 110 but wasn't all that happy with it as it seemed a bit floppy compared to the black leather ones. FWIW, I prefer Buck's nylon 110 sheaths for the 110/112 as they seem more comfortable on the belt.

I’ve actually been transitioning to these also

The Mexico ones are stiffer and thicker. I have really carried one enough to see how they get when broken down a bit. It is the same thickness as the 102.

The Made in USA ones, both black and tan are really soft, suede like leather... I have a tan 113 that is broken in and with some mink oil feels really good. Sort of took the suede feel away. But I have a black 110 one and it just feels too soft and floppy.
