Modern Tradtitional suggestions

My work EDCs lately (after a couple of comments about my Code4 and Bestech Paladin from co-workers) have been much more "traditional-like".

But, I am finding myself really liking some of the modern takes on traditionals.

I started with the Benchmade Proper, which ticks all the boxes but one - need a slimmer profile to the blade to be more slicey - I tried reprofiling to a fairly small DPS, but with that saber grind it *needs* a Krein regrind. That would make it just about perfect. But it looks like Krein is not doing any more Propers.

I have been carrying to work my Viper EZ-Open in Bocote wood since I got it, and it definitely has the slicey blade and is a pleasure to carry, but the lack of back spring kind of scares me. I have had it break the hold of the detent ball a couple of times in normal use (backing out of a cut, stropping, tip work). I haven't cut myself yet, but with how sharp that m390 blade gets it is only a matter of time.

I have been looking at the Lionsteel Shuffle and Dom with great interest, but it looks like they don't support a place to attack a lanyard. My preferred carry is in my RFP next to my wallet with the lanyard up. This makes it super simple to grab it from my pocket, even in the car.

So, with all of that, does anyone have any suggestions?
- Modern material for the blade (s30V, s35vn, M390 or better).
- Nice scale materials (I prefer hard wood or Micarta, but CF is not a deal breaker)
- Backspring to assist in keeping the blade deployed.
- Place to attach a lanyard.

Oh - and it not absolutely necessary, but I would like a blade around 3" or just a bit under.

Thanks for the help!

Lion Steel Bolus and Maserin Plow. The blade length on the plow might be to long at 3 1/4 but the Bolus at 2 13/16 will work.
Fob attaches at the rear on the Bolus.

It doesn't meet all of your requirements, but the Buck 501 has steel and handle options through the Buck custom shop.

Lion steel shuffler, love the M390 clip point. Perfect size. Great walk n talk. Congratulations on the Bolus CF.

Seconded on the JE Made knives, execution is phenomenal, I carry my Zulu frequently. Good walk and talk, available with and without a pocket clip, available with natural materials or full Ti, and modern blade steel. I've been very happy with everything I've handled from JE Made.

I have also been looking for modern traditionals. I’d like to find a traditional look with a modern action. Would these be called “traditional moderns” instead?

I like the axis lock and would buy a mini crooked river, if i had $200 burning a hole in my pocket. I’m also intrigued by the Case Kickstarter trapper. Check out Chris Crawford Knives, too.

I really did like the look of JE Made knives, but the Bolus Clip Jack in CF came today (a day early - thank you collectorknives!!). It checks ALL the boxes.

Very nice clip point M390 blade. Came with a ... "toothy" edge, but a little time with my DMT bench stones and it is topping hairs :) and is super slicey and thin behind the edge.
good solid pull, nice stay open retention. Was a little hard to get full 550 around the lanyard pin, but I did it.

Very very very happy with this. It is going to be in my pocket for quite a while!

God job on the fob. It's hard not to like the Bolus Clip, it's the best of old design and new materials.

Case collaborations with Tony Bose are the best. Steel liners, 154cm blades, water jet blanking, pivot bushings, milled liners but tradionals covers such as ebony, bone, stag...Expect to pay ~$300. Made in Pennsylvania by Case's best cutlers.

Boker Slack comes to mind. Very stiff spring. Definitely not going to close on you. Light weight as well. Really like mine.
