I looked at another sword that is similar to my Patton Saber but marked "Wilkinson London". Obviously (?) an early 20th century no-nonsense weapon. No scabbard. The black grip is protected by a solid but simple guard and the fairly staight blade has a blood groove and a few proof marks. About 27" blade if I remember.
So what is this?

It looks very much like an 1899 cavalry troopers sword except that short a blade seems odd. The blades on those tend to run about 32 inches or so. It might have been shortened.

You could ping Robert Wilkinson-Latham over at the Antique&Military section of Sword Forum International. He is very approachable and a bottomless cup of Wilkinson information. Lots of other Brit ish sword fans there as well.

Cheers

It has been identified as a Wilkinson Royal Navy Cutlass Pattern 1900 and made between then and 1920.
Thanks Horseclover! Mr Wilkinson-Lathum was very helpful!
