Modifications to BM Axis lock studs?

I love the axis lock on my BM 710HS, but the only thing that is a downside is that the thumb lugs on the axis lock stick out to leave a profile that can be felt through the pocket.

I have toyed with the idea of grinding the studs down to fit flush with the handle and routing out the slot so that the studs can still be accessed to disengage the lock.

The knobs have two small holes in them, presumably to use some type of tool to unscrew them. I figure the knobs could be ground down without disassembly of the axis lock, or could maybe be taken off and ground down.

Has anyone done this or had similar thoughts? If the process can be pulled off, I will do it to the several BM Axis lock knives in the family collection.

Thanks for any replies.

I have ground several user benchmade studs down with a small sanding drum and a dremel. I went to just above the holes on the axis post. (about flush with the sclaes) No problems. Tape around the cutouts to avoid maring your knife. A quick blast of brake part cleaner and some lube and you don't even have to tear apart the knife. Makes it slide in the pocket very well. Done a 710 and a 705. My fingers can still pinch into the openings to close the blades with the studs.
