This was a little work but a lot of fun in the process. I reprofiled the tip for a more traditional look, slight recurve to the blade, larger choil, ground off thumg ramp and added grooves in place, reprofiled tang and hand made Natural Canvas micarta grips.

Next is to finish up the BK7, get started on the BK2 or 10 while waiting on the BK1 Brute.

Very cool. Over time, with use, that thing'll take on a nice patina.

Thanks guys, it was a fun project and now thwe BK7 is ready for grips. I just don't know whether I want Natural or Black panels this time.

Great work, I wish I had the tools and know how, to do work such as this.

Best little tool I have bought lately was a 1x30 belt sander for about $50.00, Harbour Freight, Ebay just hobby tool made in China and start grinding away what you don't want.

Just make sure you do it outside or hook up a good vacuum as steel is bad but Black Canvas Micarta could get you killed for the mess.

As for Know How I don't have any, this is only my second attempt and the 1st was a simple 4 inch Utility knife below along with the 5 inch and 7 inch blades I need to finish.

Could you tell us more on how you did the Micarta handle?

ACwire,

I buy Micarta in a in various sizes and have it cut in half. For the BK9 and for the rest of the BK line I have coming I marker the panels were I wanted to save the material.

Due to not having a band saw for the bottom of the panels I drilled a row of smal holes through each panel to follow the outline of the grip. I then used a Dremel tool and cut off wheel to cut the material between the drilled holes.....Rough shape.

Mark where to drill holes for Loveless Rivets and drill pilot hole and then a counter sink drill bit for rivet shank.

Epoxy panels to side and tighten down the Loveless Rivets so epoxy fills fill voids and excess is squeezed out and let dry.

With 80 grit 1x30 belt just take your time and start removing material and shaping as you go. For rounded areas and radius I used a 1.5 inch sanding drum chucked in a drill press with course paper. To get the rough shape took about 3 hours then later last night I spent about an hour to thin it down and get a nice comfortable contour to fit my hand.

Hand sand with some 220 W/D wet and finish sand with some 320 W/D dry.

Not sure if that is the right way but it works for me.
