A few days ago I got quite bored and wanted to modify one of my knives. I decided to go with a knife that I wanted to love but just could not get into so I picked my BM 300SN. I started by rounding the spine of the knife with a 220 grit belt on my belt sander.

Then I took a file to the scales. I liked the original scale design however I wanted to try something different than the croud. So I tried to make the scales look a lot like a Rocky Mountain like pattern. Originally I planned on dyeing the scales a dark red but I think for the time being ill leave them like this.

From here it was time to stonewash the blade and put a nice high polished 25 degree edge on the knife with the Edge Pro. (Note I'm still working out kinks with my Edge Pro technique).

Overall I find myself liking this knife much more now and whenever I get the skill down, I would like to make new scales for the knife. So how do you guys like my mods to this knife?

Looks great.

I've been rounding the spine on a few knives lately and I think (for a knife that won't be used to start a fire) that more should come from the factory this way. It's really an easy way to add class to a knife.

I'm not sure if it's my phone, or your pics, but I'm having a hard time making out the details. If you can, you might consider shooting out in the sunlight.

I'm not a huge fan of the scales either. Not sure what I'd do with them myself, but I know that I wouldn't leave them stock. Maybe dye them the same as my Southard.

I learned something new today! That sharp edge can be used with a striker!

I plan on buying a 300 sn and I was already thinking of how to change the scales. I like the color but not the pattern
