Its been over 3 months since I removed the coating from by Basic 7 (Modifications Part 1) and I have not had a problem with rust or stains. I have put a finger cut out in the blade and reshaped the top edge plus sharpened it for 2 1/2". So far these additional modifications have made a great blade even more useful to me. See results in the attached scan. Bubba

Bubba,
I like the looks of your 7. How did you add the finger cut out? I have a 7 also. I think that a finger cut out would really enhance the knife. How usefull do you find the sharpened top edge? How long did it take you to remove the coating? At first I tought that I might remove the coating on my 7, but I have decided not to. As the coating wears I think that it will give the knife alot of character.

Bubba, I really like the way that Basic #7 looks. Did you do the finger cutout with a Dremel or by hand? I think I see some mods. in the future for my Basic #7 too.

Thanks for the photo.

The finger cutout was done with a Dremel tool as was the coating removal. I used a 1/2" sanding sleeve for the coating (1/2 hour process) and a 3/4" mounted stone for the cutout. I have been using a Randall #14 for years as my all purpose fixed blade and when I replaced it several months ago with the Busse, I copied the Randall's blade profile and top cutting edge to the Busse because I was accustomed to having these features on a "user" knife.
Good luck with your efforts, Bubba
