It also seems like the position of the body being upright and sawing up and down vs. being on the ground and sawing side to side with seems better to me. I will certainly try this out sometime and test it for myself.

In the conventional position, one does not rely solely on arm strength and endurance to maintain proper pressure. But if you get a coal that fast, it probably does not matter.

man, you know so many bow-drill techniques! i'd be happy just to be able to do it the usual way, haha.
 
I just used the tree bark as a hearth!

It's funny I think it's harder to saw than to bow!! I get tired faster in this method (WIERD??)

I'm gonna have to give this a shot. As previously mentioned it may prove advantageous when the ground is wet...or covered in snow.

Nevertheless looks like fun.
