Pictures of a Collins Legitimus that I modified...added a piece of 1 1/8 round stock 3 inches long to the poll of this axe making it a 4.5 pound head and a darn good splitter.

Looks like you did a good job blending it in to the original. If you haven't seen or heard of it yet- a similar axe was modified/ used by a guy named Tom Clark in the 70's. Here is a link to a video about him and the axe. It mentions that he was intended to try and get a patent on the design. I don't know how he made out, never saw any for sale.

I did see that video, that was what made me do this to this axe and it has changed the way I split wood...it works great after a little time to get the hang of the new swing.

I think your axe is finished better that the axe Mr. Clark is using in the vid. Do you do that little hop into the chop?

Did you just weld the new steel onto the head and then grind/smooth down the joint?

RossA, I did do a little work to flatten out the pole on the axe before adding the new steel to it and then it was welded to fill the gap , then sanded down flush as best I could to make it look decent. This is the head I started with.
