I was always disappointed with the level of sharpness off of the fine diamond stones of the Lanksy sharpening system...Also I always got a different angle on each side of the blade...I think it had something to do with the guide being bent a little or maybe the way it sat in between the guides?, giving a different angle....so I did away with that....

Rednecked it up a little. Nothing a 2x4 can't fix.

Now I just loosen or tighten up the phillips screw and flip the knife over so it is consistent.

That is genius! I have one of those Lanskys and I was about to trade/sell it for something else. I may have to try that. I tried stropping a knife with 2k grit and it sure enough polished that edge like a mirror. Nice trick, thanks for sharing.

How do you conpensate for different grinds? The blade may not be on a horizontal plane, nor the same degree difference when you flip the blade over. Nice mod though, definitely nice mod. Do you just make sure when you secure to base that you remain consistent?

Wow so simple yet fixed so many of the problems I have also encountered with the lansky. Thanks for sharing.

"(P.S. tried the super sapphire hone and it doesn't work at all)"

You must mean that it doesn't work for you with that set up ;)

Because it works wonders for me.

Nice rig you got there. I'm definitely gonna give this a try. Do you find it much of a pain to have to unscrew the knife, flip, then tighten it back up every time you need to switch sides?

And how easy is it to peel off that sand paper, and scrape off the glue on the hone?

I forgot to mention that I put a screw in on top of the 2x4 where the back red knobed screw adjustment is, so I can level it out by adjusting that back screw before tightening down the front screw.

I think it's actually easier to flip the knife vs. getting it centered in between the 2 guides and making sure everything straight and both sides of the blade are in the same depth etc. etc.

Just hang on the handle and a quick 1/4 turn and flip and a quick 1/4 turn and it's there. Only have to flip it 4 times. And it is so more consistent! Well for me anyways.

I havn't tried peeling off the sand paper yet...It didn't get very loaded up the first 2 times i've used the 2000 grit, so I'm not sure how many times it'll last before I have to change it, but I used rubber cement so who knows how easy it'll come off...time will tell!

Having done something similar with a GATO Diamond hone system, by board mounting one half of the clamp and utilizing two wood screws with a flat heads, I was able to sharpen VERY NARROW blades at the eleven degree angle setting. This allowed the stone face to clear the normally higher clamp bolt knob and still hit long, thin and narrow blade edges. Hard wood worked best due to the frequent tightening and loosening of the screws. OldDude1

I like this. They say anything can be fixed with duct tape, zip ties or 2x4 and creative thinking.

I'm just so accustomed to the simpleness of the sharp maker, but that doesn't sound too bad.

Thanks man, I'll giver a try one day.

Very nice looking fix here,I will definitely be trying this.
Thanks for sharing.

One problem I've always had with Lansky is getting really thin. I can get maybe 12 per side on a long, tall blade but not much otherwise.
