I have been wanting a kydex rig for carry like a murse (:foot:) or Dundee rig. So I ordered from Eric and got some hardware from knifekits.com and did a little mod/add-on to some killer Mashed Cat Kydex. It is close to how I want it and will probably evolve on my Elk hunt after Thanksgiving.

Anyone else do something similar with a kydex setup?

That's a pretty cool setup... I'm gonna have to try it out.

Thanks for the pics... and the idea! :)

.

I think you risk losing it carrying it that way upside-down. I have had my heavy revolver fly out of my shoulder hoster while on horseback coming down off a mountain trail. Plus if you fall hard hiking in the hills or jump off of something, all quite common in mountain hunting, I think it might go bye bye! When I lost my loaded .44 from my Safariland shoulder holster I didn't even notice it missing for about a mile. Found it before the tourists:)

Looks good man, very practical. Would hide under a jacket quite nicely, not to mention ride pretty comfortably.

I cringe every time I see someone with that big and heavy of a knife carried upside down.

I can see why you say that, but if his Mashed Cat kydex has anywhere near the retention mine does on my SARsquatch, he's not losing that knife by gravity alone.

Thanks for all the comments. Yes, I know that the upside down thing is disconcerting. It won't necessarily be carried just like that and if it is I will probably add a retention strap. I have drop, jump, bump and fall tested it though and the retention on Eric's sheath is phenomenally firm while removal of knife is still very smooth.

it would be ok for non-defensive drawing, but i agree with chuck it would be like cross drawing a firearm, kind of like getting something out of a backpack while it is on your back.

my 02, but if it makes one happy, it is like your underwear, its up to ya....

Cross drawing is not always slower, a lot of it is dependent on the length of the brl or blade. Ever notice a lot of the 7 1/2" brl SAA on the frontier were cross draw holstered?

This setup is for carry and not for defense, but crossdraw is a preferred draw for Apache style. My defense blade is usually reverse draw off the belt.

nice job. simple and cheap and effective. I like it.

I cringe every time I see someone with that big and heavy of a knife carried upside down.

do you mean in all circumstances, or just as shown in the photos?

I was of the understanding that by using a pin lock, or rare earth magnets, or some other retention method that it wouldn't be a problem.
