This was the knife that really got me started in collecting. I used it daily for almost 3yrs and it definitely showed it. I wish I had taken pictures of it before I worked on it but I wasn't thinking. Needless to say it had several scuffs. Originally it had a serrated blade which was quite scratched up. I had even dulled the tip from dropping it while rock climbing. It was still very usable but since this knife has sentimental value to me I wanted to restore it as best I could. I sent the knife to BM and they replaced the blade for a very reasonable fee with a plain edge. When I received it, it was pretty stiff so I took it apart and polished all the pivot areas. I then polished the blade with steel wool and flitz. To give the aluminum scales a new look I sanded them with 100 grit sand paper and then I buffed it up with flitz and a Scotch Brite pad. I placed my other Sentinel next to it to show what it looked like from factory. I'd say the whole job took about 3hrs. The most difficult part was removing the tooling marks that didn't show until I started removing the blk coating. I am very happy with how it turned out, it is extremely smooth compared to my other Sentinels.

Please let me know what you think.

Looks nice and shiny but I think it might be kind of slick in the hand.

Wow, looks great! The Sentinel was one of my first also and is a great knife. Your work makes it look more expensive. Nice job!

Thank you for the compliments, I really love the way it came out. I wish I knew how to anodize though as I think it would look nice to add some color like on the BM 42's. I've seen some originals made by Elishewitz. I think he called them the Shadow's, now that's one knife that I would love to have.

muzzleup, it is definitely smoother, but with the design of the handle and the serrations I can't tell much of a difference between my other model when it comes to retention.

Awesome job!!!!

I'll definately be doing a sand/polish job on my 720 once the anodizing wears off.

Mike

Sig: Looks really nice. Is the pocket clip black or is that just the lighting angle? I got an extra Benchmade silver colored clip from the factory. It's your's if you want to try the all silver look. The silver torx screws that came with it are for Benchmade's without scales (where it screws directly onto the liner instead of on the scale with the screws tapping into the liner). The uncoated torx screws might not be long enough for a 875, but you could still use your black torx screws and attach the silver pocket clip.

E-mail me at echang@uni.uiuc.edu if you want the extra pocket clip.

Comrade Chang, the clip is in fact blk or should I say a well worn blk. I appreciate the offer but I really like the contrast and I am going to pick up a new black clip or take one off of my other BM's.

Thanks again

No problem, just e-mail if you ever want it.

The modification to the handle finish looks really neat.
