Hi, all. As anyone who bought one of these great little blades will know, the supplied sheath was ruddy awful, BUT with abit of "customizing" you can get a half-decent sheath.
I cut the stitching out with a scalpel blade, peeled off the cordura-type fabric & was left with the hard plastic inner sheath, rub off any excess adhesive & then trim the plastic surround (full of stitch holes!) away from the sheath with your scalpel blade or lino knife. I shortened the height of the sheath-rear & mounted a belt clip that I cannibalized off a rather dodgy tanto-style United Cutlery blade that I had knocking round the house.
Re-shape the rear of the sheath to allow you to grip the handle when drawing the blade & IMHO you get a pretty servicable IWB sheath.
What dya think?

OOps! Sorry for posting in wrong section, Mr Moderator!

Ive never been in the Toolshed before, its quite nice innit?

(Apart from that big spider over there, look at the size of that!!) LOL

Thats the sheath they could've shipped - and saved all the expense putting on the stitched up stuff. Looks good.

How's the poky looking sheath tip working when worn? Is there enough there to round off?

Awesome , this is the kind of stuff I wish was posted more in this part of BF.
I love seeing folks take something allready produced and making osmething more to thier liking out of it.
Kudos

Thanks, guys. The "pointyness" of the sheath isnt a problem, it could probably be abit more rounded, theres enough material to round it a little bit more & still have the blade protected.
The new clip allows it to ride fairly high in Small of back & even when sat in my car is quite comfortable (though that MAY have something to do with the sheath er....."positionin itself" in my A** crease!!:D

I just got my Sting, and I agree that the sheath sucks. I want to do as you did, and I fished a belt clip out of an old cheap-o cordura holster.

Question: How did you affix the clip to the sheath? I'd hate to drill/rivet and scratch up the knife.

My clip looks to be a bit wider than yours, maybe I could get outside the actual blade area.

Thanks!

CRKT is famous for the good knife/sorry sheath syndrome.

the companion came with not 1 sorry sheath but for some reason known only to CRKT they supply 2 crummy ones, would have rather had one good one.

thats what custom sheathmakers are for i suppose.

not a bad job on the sting sheath BTW.

St1100jack, Sorry for the delay in replying!

For now the clip is just epoxied on, I roughened both surfaces to be glued then clamped them tight as the adhesive set.
TBH, I want to drill some very small calibre holes & put tiny screws in to make sure it holds, but thats yet another project in a long list of "things-to-do"!
