So I tend to prefer spear point in my blades. And I love my NMFBM so much that I decided to give it a spear point. Kept hoping Busse would make a spear point BM but sadly I had to make my own. I know some will like it, some will hate it... But I wanted to share. I love it! I was very careful and kept a pan of ice water to keep the blade nice and cool during the change. Never even got hot to the touch. Took forever that way... but was worth it. I also removed the point at the bottom as I didn't want it wearing a hole in my bag or side. The "Exclamation Mark" shaped ding in the side of the blade was there when the coating was removed. In fact it still has coating in it. Didn't lose but about an inch in length... so it's still regular Battle Mistress length. I Love this knife.

Well..........I like it

It's pretty cool, and would probably make a good thrower :D

Thanks. It's pretty much the knife I've always wanted... and it's INFI! Can't ask for more. And the thinner edge these had versus other BMs I've owned really makes this an all around great blade. And the rounded spine makes it great at batoning through wood. It's about as close to perfect (For Me) as I've owned.

I think it is pretty cool! Course, I ain't from around these parts, so I might be outta place sayin so. I think you did a great job on it however.

Good job on that, I really like what you did with the point. Did you make a template or just do it?

with the new profile, it would make a nice companion to the Gladius!

I have a Gladius... I was kinda thinking the same thing. Like Japanese swords often come in threes... I got my Gladius, Now this, and my Microtech Crosshair as my triple threat spear points. I would love to see Jerry make a model like the gladius but with about a 25 to 28 inch blade and a 11 to 12 inch handle. But with the same beefy blade and deep blood groove. That would be a MAN'S sword.

I traced the curve in the edge so that I would have the same curve in the back... and then spaced it to where they would meet exactly in the middle... marked it with a sharpie and the used this little engraver pen I have to score the line in the steel. Then I used a cut off wheel to remove the excess (that was the hard part because I kept on removing it to dip in water to keep it cool so I'd have to carefully get the wheel back in the groove I was cutting) and my Kalamazoo SM-1 with 100 grit belt to round, shape, and sqaure the spine.

I still have a piece of the tip with about an inch of the edge in tact. It's almost shark tooth shaped. Thought about dressing it up and making like a little hide away knife.

Beautiful knife... but the edge has more curve than the spine. I prefer a more symmetrical spear point.

what do you feel is the benefit of a true symmetrical spear point? I'm curious, having not read many responses on the topic.

Over the asymmetrical... not sure if there is a big one... I just prefer it. The point is centered better in the blade, in line with the handle, which would seem to lend to it thrusting ability. I mean, why are most traditional spear points symmetrical?

Over the tip that was there? This actually can thrust.

that would be sweet, but that would probably be about $3000 worth of INFI!

This is one of the knives Jerry made I wish had gone into production, +1 on this one!!!

Can't see the OP's pics, I'm on a work comp., out at the plant. Wish I could!!!

I love it  However, I am wondering how much you can actually work with the tip of an NMFBM. So I guess the modification was more for aesthetic reasons, right?

I like drop points and spear points but that one doesn't do it for me. To each his own.

If you choke up on the spine you an use the belly of the tip in either this form or its previous form... the main difference for me is that it's pointer now. It's better at thrusting. Not that I do much thrusting with this blade but in my mind this added a benefit and didn't take away from any other function. And I appreciate it when the tip is in line with the center of the knife. I don't mind such a steep shovel nose shape to it... but one reason I didn't make it a more graceful curve is because I didn't want to regrind the edge. I just brought the spine in to meet the edge that was already there.

Ummm...Infi-Del,

Because of this thread...You just caused me to spend the most I ever have on a BIG Ol' hunk of INFI!!! If it's as balanced as I hope it is and I'm as happy with the knife as you are with your modded one, it may be "The One". It has to knock Black Betty off the perch, and THAT's gonna be tough to do!!! I'm not sure if I should THANK YA or Monkey Stomp Ya!?!?!?!?!;)

I'll let ya know when I get home on Friday what ya got comin' to ya!!!:D

Glad your happy with your mods and that knife is truely your's now!!! Congrats!!!

Stump

PS: Now I gotta go make the list of what's going for sure:grumpy:....and the Shed project is on temporary hold now too!!!

ETA: Actually....I think I'll blame LVC since he posted the pic of the blade I didn't know existed!!! Infi-Del...you're safe Brother....even if you did "Start" the thread!!!
