Ok, I posted in the sister busse forum. I am lucky to own three swamprat knives: warden rodent solution, and rmd. I also own some other fixed blades including a grohmann #3. It is an amazing knife in its own right and nearly identical specs as the rmd. So, I am considering trading in the rmd to get a modified rodent 6 (rmd style) or new busse ash in 101.

I don't own any chopper/battoning large thick stock knives. Most of the heavy knife abuse is working outside on property when it is not 102 outside. All that to ask if you which one you would recommend. Pics would be helpful too.

Thanks

I saw the ASh1 sr101 and was considering it ,then saw so similar in size to my Rodent 6. I have a rodent solution custom shop on the way ,so Im going to go bigger.Maybe see what they replace the rodent 7 with.I dont want to go 9.Be cool of they made an 8 !
Ok sorry off track there...anyways I LOVE the rodent 6.Now i Have never owned another fixed blade user but man every time i break this thing out I'm impressed and I've had it a few years. I've easily battoned larger then you'd think wood.Hacked, chopped and just laid into this thing.. I love making a fire with my R6 this things like a wood chipper just shreds. As you know it stays sharp a magically long time and is just reliable.
It is awesome ! Being my first fixed blade and first Busse Kin I like it so much I dont see me leaving the swamp for sometime...So you know my vote! Better act fast though.Almost immediatly after ordering my RSolution it went sold out.

Last pic is after I decided to try some patina. And having sent back for some work and told them the choil was cutting my big fat fingers, expecting them to dull it they actually machined it a little bigger now its a perfect custom fit! I like the patina for now but may decide to shine it back up and start the never ending fight against oxidation once again. The yellow layer is sandwiched on the sheath and its carbon fiber on the front.

Honestly if you want a bigger knife that your RMD go bigger. I would go for at least a 7 inch knife because under that you really wont see a huge difference in the new knife vs the RMD. While I do like the R6 it really isn't that much more capable than an RMD also I find the ASH's blade to be to wide for its length. I would go on the exchange right now and snag the 911 that's currently for sale if you want a bigger blade.

I like the Rodent 6; and find the BG ASH appealing....but trade (or sell) a RMD to get one? Nope.

110% agree w/Pat:thumbup: ;) I grappled with the same thing but a reverse situation. I was thinking of going down in size (2 years ago) I snagged 1 or 2 each of all of the Rodent series. Found that the R4, R7 & R9 were the most used of the set. The 4 could do everything the RS or R3 could and do it real good. The R7 was great for any mid-size work and the R9, well it was just a cutting machine.

In your case you going up in size and like Pat says go to the R7 UNLESS it is a hilt comfort thing you have. Some folks to be honest don't care for the Rodent series mid hump handles. Personally I love it :D!!! To me it's the most comfortable and conforming hilt design in all of Bussedom  save the SFNO. I must say though the 911 is worth a REAL look...my .02
