So I got an original Seal 2000 off of the 'Bay a couple years ago with plans to rehandle it. Well, it finally happened. I put a brass cross guard, brass pin and lanyard tube, Wenge wood handles, and stripped the coating to make this!

I still need to do more sanding/finishing work to it, and sand the blade more for a better satin, but I think you get the idea of how it looks. Enjoy!

That looks great! I've only seen a few custom handled SOGs and yours looks very nice - almost like the Cocobolo-handled SOGs.

Digging that satin look too! Would love to see the final product. :D

mighty exciting work.
looks like something worthwhile for the SOG Knives collecters club to consider!

Thanks for the compliments! "In person," the wood has more of a contrast between the light and dark grains which was hard for me to catch on camera. Hopefully I'll get the finish sanding and polishing done soon so I can post the final product!

Thanks for the compliments.

Rkwallace, the handle cost maybe $7 to $8. That's the cost of materials. I did the work myself. Some of it was very tedious (like filing the cross guard slot to fit), but I removed the zytel handle over a year ago and thought I should just buckle down and finish the project.

I really like that. I also have a SOG 2000 and may try it myself. How did you remove the zytel handle and attach the wood handle? also, is there anything inscribed on the other side of the blade?

deltablade, I ground off one side of the zytel with a belt sander. Once I got down to the tang, the rest just "snapped" off. There is "Seki" inscribed on the other side.

Thanks again for the compliments!

dl351,

so, like, you going into business providing this upgrade ??

Cheers,

Carl

Haha! If i were better at this, then I could. As for now, there are details that I don't feel like are up to par for a purchased service. This (the Seal 200) is actually my second re-handle of a hidden tang knife and only my fifth (or so) re-handle all together. Although it's not a SOG, here's a picture of my first hidden tang re-handle:

This is/was a Cold Steel SRK. I put a full flat grind on it and a walnut handle. I'll tell you, the crossguards are by far the hardest part of these! It's a fun and addicting hobby!

Oh, and I like the way the Seal 200 re-handle came out more than the SRK.
