So I took my old beater short Kabar and stripped it down, took a dremel tool to the top of the guard and did a trim, then the old Swiss tool file to make some jimping on the spine, and hit the blade with some sandpaper put the machine marks are pretty deep so I think I'm going to just leave it the way it is with the exception of finishing the edge and maybe add some serrations to the top edge.

As you can see I'm not a professional, but it was fun.

the machine marks are deep but you can polish the blade up to a high gloss around them with your dremel and polishing compound, or even by hand.
the leather handle is hard enough to shape with a file, like checking or finger groves.
just my two cents. I love giving old knives a fresh look.
thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks folks, I may try to shine the blade a bit more, and I thought about some grooves on the handle but it feels good to me already so I don't know yet.

Thanks again

I did the edge and a bit more sanding, I like how it turned out and it's freaky sharp.
