I recently completed a knife for my self which is my take on a wharncliffe. It has an Acid Stone wash and chisel ground blade. It is 1080 hc steel. Besides the blade itself, it sports an experimental leather handle. The leather is apx. 1/8'' thick making the handle an overall thickness of about 3/8'' thick. The handle is held on via stitches threaded through small holes i drilled on my drill press. Miraculously, i didn't break a single drill bit! I finished the leather with a water-proofing creme made for shoes.
As for the sheath, i tried a new method/material this time. This time, I used leather and it was a pouch style sheath. I have only made one leather sheath (for knives anyways) and that was my first leather project. It was pretty much a piece of leather folded over and riveted with 3 rivets. This time though, i took a piece of paper and experimented with patterns. Once i got the pattern i liked, i cut it out of a piece of leather i bought from Tandy leather factory. It was discounted because it had minor imperfections so i got a 6.5 sq. ft piece for $30! Anyways, i cut it out, punched the stitch holes, drilled the button snap holes, molded it in my kydex press (homemade), and dried it in the laundry drier (shhhhhh! don't tell my mom!). After it was dry, i gave it a bath in Light walnut wood stain, applied the button snaps, stitched it up, and water proofed it.
I will admit, i don't particularly care for the leather handle but i really don't want to buy a cobalt drill bit to drill pin holes. It isn't that bad though. Also, i would have rounded/chamfered the top of the sheath which protrudes over the spine of the knife. tell me what you think! i would love to get some advice!

i had a little mishap with the trimmer. i took off a little extra but you hardly notice it really.
