Modified your Thru Hiker's handle?

I got my first Fehrman, a Thru Hiker, from another forumite. It's used but in excellent condition. I love the thickness and overall style. I never handled one but from the specs and pics I was hoping the actual grip area of the handle would be longer... but no. :( I'm thinking of knocking the tail beak off to about right above the lanyard hole, maybe even thinning down the guard if that'll help too. Right now the only comfortable way to grip it is with the index finger up in the choil. Now, I don't want to modify this knife but I don't want to let'er go either. So anyone modified their Thru Hiker? Am I certifiable in doing this?

I put some scales from an old worn out RAT 3 on mine.
It helped a lot.
The comfort factor is much better, and it is a real little beast now.

i have this same problem too, i was experimenting with cord wraps, but the sheath was getting in the way of most of them. i may modify my sheath or just cord wrap the back end.

i heard if you call Eric he can recommend people. i believe a gentleman at Ranger Knives is what most people use. Also, talk with Brian_T, he talks with Eric a lot and i think he might be able to help.
