Modifying a CQC8

A while back I bought a Surefire C2 / Emerson CQC8 combo. I loved the C2 but found that the handle of the CQC8 was just too long for me to be comfortable carrying it, so into the drawer it went. Then I saw this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=269368 and discovered what Larry Davidson could do to an Emerson Tactical Persian. I had to give him a call.

After a couple of emails (he is great about answering emails and phone calls) and a phone call later, we decided to shorten the handle as much as possible and 3D texture some Silver G10 scales. Here is the result with one of the original slabs next to it,

It is amazing what a difference a half an inch makes.

OK, I give up. There are other pictures that I would like to post but I am having trouble resizing them. (no software) I am going to see if I can get Larry Davidson to post them for me.

One of the reasons that I modified the CQC8 was because it passed every spine whack that I could think of and locked up tight with no vertical or horizontal blade play.

Come on guys I know that there are more comments than that out there. I want to hear both the good and the bad. The knife handles great and the lock up is as good as I could want it. Larry did a great job.

Good points:
- dappled grey snakeskin-looking handle material is gorgeous IMHO
- nicely executed sculpting
- shape looks both secure and comfortable, especially the pics with the scales covering all the way to the butt of the handle

Bad points:
- black fittings and blade coating clash with the light grey handle (contrast between materials is too sharp IMHO). I'd prefer beadblasted, matte satin, or some other greyish finish instead of the black. YMMV.

RoJok,

Thanks for the feedback. You have to blame the contrast on me. The blade comes from the factory black and I wanted the contrast. You would have hated my other choice of material; it was Ivory Micarta.
