Just picked up a ZT 0801 and I'm liking it better than I thought I wood.

I picked one up having seen Jim Skelton's video on the Will Moon modifications to the knife - I intended to have Will Moon do my knife, but he stopped taking orders on 0801 modifications shortly after Jim did his video....

I think I'd still like to try to put a satin/brushed finish on the titanium. I suppose I could just use a scotch brite pad. Any suggestions here? Cold a Dremel be used with the correct head?

I would advise against making a brushed or satin finish on titanium, just as I would suggest against polishing it. Since titanium scratches so easily, both finishes (and bead blast too) are ruined with little effort. Sadly few makers stonewash titanium.

Trollbait lol.

I know that Will blasts the frames, anodizes them and then satin finishes the flat parts of the frames that stick up with a belt sander. Then he uses a scotchbrite pad to even out the finish from the belts. You can't just use a scotchbrite right off the bat, it won't create that nice finish.

It's a lousy $170.00 knife....I'll throw caution to the wind....<sheesh>.

OK - that answers the question...thanks much.

Now....I wonder if my new Work Sharp could be used in lieu of a belt sander? Hmmm....

If you want it anodized and the flats sanded you can send it to maprik here on bladeforums really great guy.

He will also polish up the hardware there's a thread showcasing his work somewhere on the forums

Maybe you can have better success than I did with modifying titanium. I tried blasting it, and the finish was ruined in about a month (it was a more coarse blast though), polished it to a horribly dull luster with Simichrome and green compound both hand rubbed and by felt wheel, and satin with sandpaper.

Modifying titanium is not too good for an amateur.

I'm sending it to someone who has expertise.

I did alot to my 801, you must remove the blast to flame anno Ive found. It was alot of fun and turned out fantastic. I anno'd it a couple times just for fun, polished the hardware and ground the bevel (like the cf version will have).
