Modifying an AK....

After beating on my AK a little, I'm sticking with my first impression: Awesome blade, but the handle needs to be shorter. Does anyone else feel this way? Has anyone done it? Pros & Cons? How backed up is Ban right now? Do you have to send him the blade now, or will he contact you when he's ready?

IMHO the handle is perfect. But if you are looking for more of a one-handed sword I can see how the standard could be uncomfortable. However, shortening the handle may mess with the balance making it more forward heavy.

How much were you thinking of taking off?

I sent him a few several months ago, I recently checked in with him and he's very backed up apparently... IMO some things are worth the wait though.

you might consider trading someone for a ruck kensai if all you want is the shorter handles. If your looking for balde work, or more extensive/specific work, then ban would be a good choice.

Did you try it two-handed? If not, you will find you have much more control and power two-handed.

the length of the handle on the AK is the only thing i don't like about it, though i'd still get one if i had the money. imo it's a little long for it's blade length. you could take 2-3 inches off the handle and still have it be hand and a half length. of course you get more leverage with a longer handle, but that doesn't matter so much on a short blade

I think Silver Dragon nailed it. I was looking for the Ruck when I scored the AK. Still trying to trade into a Ruck, but not having much luck. Even choking back on the AK, it still feels like there is too much handle. I still want enough handle to have a good two hand grip. I plan to leave the blade as is. Is there anyone who could do this other than Ban?
