Modifying Finger Holes - Tips?

Lately ive only been carrying a folding knife as a backup defense tool to my Smith and Wesson 9mm. The only knives I feel comfortable using for this role are knives with the wave feature.

Ive seen a lot of people cut finger holes, or "spyder holes" in such a way that its a makeshift wave that works the same.

How do I go about this? Im totally clueless. Can I use a dremel? If so how powerful does it need to be, what attatchments are needed for it? Is this fairly easy to do or is it gonna be a PITA?

Lastly, will different blade steels make it more or less difficult to cut up the holes?

I am aware this will void most warranties, just looking for advice to do this correctly. I will only be doing this for my own personal collection so no worries about patent breaching or whatever.

Thanks!

Trying to take my first stab it this tonight (hehe) so even anyones speculation is welcomed. Also if its in the wrong section please let me know!

This might get better response if moved to Maintenance Tinkering and Embellishment.

BF member CharlieMike has done some amazing wave modifications. Hope he chimes in.

Yep, that is exactly where these threads go. Buckle up.

will it be as simple as...

Buy an affordable dremel.
Buy cut off wheel.
Buy polishing wheel?
Use cutting wheel to chop off unwanted steel....
.... then profit?

It looks pretty straightforward...

Note how some knives have very minimal material cut-out. You don't need a huge amount of free space in front of the hook, just enough to catch your pocket coming out.
Grind out bits at a time and test it often. You can take it off, but you can't put it back on.

Doing this-especially on the knives with holes in the blade, seriously affects the integrity of the blade. Some leave so little material that the blade will snap (or bend) very easily.
