Modifying lanyard

I have a fixed blade knife with a cord-wrapped handle that includes a wrist lanyard loop. I don't like the loop and I'd like to know people's sugessstions for dealing with it.

I could just cut it off, but I would have to retie the ends close to the handle and I doubt I could make it look very good. Also I am afraid that my knot could come loose and let the handle start to unwrap.

Alternatively, I wonder if I could untie the loop, giving me two 6" pieces of cord, and then weave or tie the cord into one of those stiff "stopper knots."

Any suggestions?

Get a book on Knot tying, and look at decorative knots. 6" is not a lot to work with--I have a Monkey's fist lanyard on My keys, and it's pretty easy, but you tie the knot in the center ot the cord, and attach the loose ends-It's backwards of what you need.-Joe

I think those lanyards are usually made not to come loose, being held tight inside the wrapping, you may de able to cut them off, then touch the ends with the tip of a soldering iron to seal them, maybe push them inside the wrapping to hide them, but don´t do this unless you are sure it will hold.

If you feel they will not hold and want to tie them, you can rub a bit of epoxy on the cord, then tie a tight square knot, and seal the ends.

If you want a small fob or a fancy knot, check this thread, you may want to follow the links in folsom´s post and check his site on knots:
