I recently used my Bushman during a snowstorm, and luckily I had gloves on, because the handle got real slippery. What should I wrap the handle with? I also want to fill the handle with supplies, like matches, maybe some wax, etc, can I put a cap on the butt of it? It was sharp as a razor when I bought it, it's even sharper now, for such a cheap knife, it's a great piece, but I can't stand the current handle. Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

What you may want to try is going to a bike store or a place that sells bicycle accessories, and look for a nice grippy handlebar grip that is of similar size. To plug up the back, look for handlebar end caps. Usually tough plastic, sometimes metal, but easily replaceable and not expensive.

Couldn't find a good site online for the stuff besides a BMX catalog, Dan's Comp. Go to bike parts, bar ends or grips.

The grips can be easily cut to get rid of the vertical piece or to trim to length.

I went to the local Hardware store an' got a big ole piece of shrink tubing to fit over the handle. It works pretty well, as long as you have a pretty decent size set of forepaws.

Have you tried Plasti- Dip yet?

before I did the shrink wrap, I'd wrapped it duct tape and paracord sheathing. Looked butt ugly, but...that particular knife aint about aesthetics anyhow....

For a similar knife I used leather thongs and epoxy. First I cleaned the handle with hot water and sink cleanser. Then I sanded the surface with about 220 grit Wet or Dry paper. Then I cleaned it one more time with rubbing alcohol. At this point I coated the handle with epoxy. Then I carefully wrapped the handle with leather thongs or boot laces. To add extra contour I carefully applied epoxy in bands in spots around the handle and added additional layers of lacing. You can also try and do a more complex over-under textured wrap. As long as you don't drill holes in the knife handle you will need the epoxy to hold the wrapping in place. You want enough epoxy to do the job, but generally I don't want to be holding onto the epoxy. It can be a skin irritant.

3m stair tape. I guarantee you won't lose you grip on that. You could even use it to strike matches.

To use the handle cavity for storage try and see if a crutch or cane tip will fit snug over the end.

PLASTI-DIP

You can find it in the hardware store. Its a can of liquid plastic, you dip the handle in, & slowly pull it out & hang it overnight to dry, then do it again at least once more, til you get the thickness you want. It makes a very comfortable handle & non-slip & it is also warmer that bare steel.
