What's the best way to alter a Res-c handle? Maybe sand after cutting, wondering what kind of finish you can achieve with sandpaper.

I'm thinking about cutting the oval outer guard off of my DT12 up to the inner oval if you know what I mean. My thumb doesn't like the guard.

Not sure about the TNT handles, but I’ve seen others use heat to reshape some older Res-C handles. Both intentionally and unintentionally.

I took some low grit sandpaper to my Basic 9’s handle where there was a hot spot. Got that area flat and the finish pretty much matches the rest of the handle. Looking at it I can’t tell where it was unless I look very closely.
I've done this same thing. It hides sanding very well.. the black does at least. I used around 60 grit I think.

My motto…low force and ratchet up…I’d start with 320 grit and see if you get tired before your happy. If so, next grit…etc.

Be aware that there can be little bubbles/inclusions in the Res-c, so if the aesthetic is important you might not want to start removing material…

Gonna have to disagree here, 120 would be finishing on these handles. Coarser the better, 60 grit would be good for shaping... in fact the higher grit belts would likely heat the material much quicker when shaping. Finish on 120 and call it a day... :)

You can also cut with a sharp knife, if you're planning on taking a lot of material really quickly and have faith in your hand to not make a slip and take too much. Safer bet would be grinding it down.

keep in mind you modify it, its on you :)

this from a old modifier :)

The Res-c on the WS seamed to be about the same as the 311, it does ball up a little on my belt grinder.

I was thinking of grinding a DT-12 guard down to give me some more handle length on the DT-12 (you know "Hellboy hands")

I love a guard for stabbing but these DT-12's are more choppers than stabbers so I need more handle length.

Didn’t mean to infer belt sanding…I’d start with some sand paper and work it by hand. I’d be afraid of melting and slinging balls from the belt.

If you do modify the guard on the DT12, please post images, be great to see how it goes.

I'm thinking the same, going to call it the "Dirty Mod" if it happens😆

I was thinking of eliminating the top of the guard so it's easier to choke up on. Would be easy to shape it so it's all rounded and smooth. Still waiting on my others to show up to decide my user before doing anything. My user will probably get the Meltdown treatment on the spine as well. Also thinking about sanding the traction dimples away on the front ¾ to add a tiny swell to it. Undecided on that until I can swing it for real into some wood.

There are pics here on BF of the Regulators that have the top of the guards cut off.

I even think some came that way as a short run?

I found the DeRegulator searching Google. If attention was made to round the top block edge that's left in those pics, it would look great.

After handling the DT-12 a lot making some sheaths.
I re-thinking the mod.
I do not think I will mod it.
I really do not think it will do what I was thinking.
