Here's a previous picture which shows what the knife looked like before.

You can see the weirdly shaped and in my opinion ugly pen-ish secondary blade.
It has not enough belly and too much drop at the spine and just doesn't look right.
I may or may not be the only one who feels this way , but if you do well I've got a simple fix for ya.
My solution was to simply take it to a clip point, and I didn't have to remove much at all either.
None of the tip has been lost, and In fact it is now finer and sharper.
This is a very handy thing if you're going to save your secondary blade for certain tasks.

I think your revision turned out great!!….. Well done mod for making the knife more to your liking...…...

You did a fine job on reshaping the blade!:thumbsup:
But I'm with John regarding the reason for doing it: the distinctive secondary pen blade on the Texas jack is the main draw of the pattern for me! The feature I'd change if I ruled the world is the bolster shape. I'm just not a fan of square bolsters.
If I could get that awesome pen blade in a jack with round bolsters, that would be something!;)

Amen! A slightly broader/longer main blade, and round bolsters/end caps, and it would be an absolute winner!

Everyone definitely has their own opinions for sure.
For me the main clip blade is what I liked about the pattern, overall it's like a larger version of my Schrade 33OT Middleman jack.

That secondary blade on them is definitely unique and I can understand being drawn to it, I just wasn't.

Round bolsters would be a nice change, I like the bolsters it has but would like round bolsters just as much.
If they ever make one with rounded bolsters I may pick one up.

Well done on the conversion H&S. I, like John find that odd lookin pen/wharncliffe thingy blade is the main appeal for me. I down right love it's oddness and usefulness but you converted it quite nicely to your liking:cool::thumbsup:

Nice modification.

I also don't care for the looks of that giant pen blade, but instead of a regrind I replaced it with a 6232 from the 1960's.

Thanks.

And I was getting worried that I was the only person who didn't care for it, functionally it's fine.
I wish they had done a standard pen blade like the 6208 or the 22087.
But that would just be the old 70's version, they should just bring it back.

They really need to offer the 87 pattern Texas jack in amber jigged and CV as well.

You did a fine job with your modification H&S. It looks good. Although the pen blade is very useful, I think I would have modified it to a sheepfoot blade instead of another clip blade.

Definitely a good idea and I thought about it, I just didn't want to mess it up so I went the easier route.

 Not the pen on the Texas Jack! It's like the most perfectest blade already!! I judge every other pen blade shape by that one, and they all fall short!

You did an excellent job with the mod. Though the best painted moustache on the Mona Lisa would still be sacrilege. I am going to need to go home and hug my Small Texas Jack now, to recover from the trauma of the images.

Nice mod, clean lines and well done. I also think the pen looks a bit odd, but I also agree with those that feel the main looks small for the frame. But that's why there's so much diversity of patterns:D:thumbsup: I think main clip blades without some form of a swedge looks funny:confused: . Like the Chinese made Old Timers. So some of the ones I've got I added one:thumbsup:

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel , if you really want to have some fun, maybe you should post your original post from this thread in the Cult of the Texas Jack thread, and see how the cultists react to your work on the pen blade. :D;)

It's tempting, but I better not.
That secondary blade already bit my finger when I was trying to take the picture, I hate to think what it would do to me if I used it to mess with people :D
It must not be too happy with me for modifying it :D

Nice job ! Funny, I would have tried to mod the pen blade into a wharncliffe, but that smaller clip looks top notch - very nicely proportioned from one blade modder to another.

Same here! I think I'll carry mine today and give it some love. :p Excellent work on the mod, though. I'd like to learn more about how you did it, tools used, etc.

Nice work! There's something to be said about taking a knife and really making it your own. Personally, I like the two clip blades more so than I think I'd like a clip and warncliffe or sheepsfoot.
