The winter clothing thread sparked an idea. How do you guys modify jackets, vest or pants to carry your knifes? Please add photos if you have them. Thanks

I guess the simplest way to do this would be to sew additional pockets. You could also make small pockets inside your larger pockets. Of course, I have no idea how to thread a sewing machine... I probably failed the sewing section of Home Ec class way back in middle school. :)

In blue jeans I cut the bottom out of the watch pocket so that I can clip my Starmate inside. This is less conspicuous and more secure. It still allows convenient access to the pocket.

When I was young I sewed one end an elastic strap inside the upper arm part of a loose-sleaved coat. The lower end had a snap arrangement that I could clip onto a lanyard loop on an automatic. This held the knife around the bottom of my forearm when my arms were down at my sides. With the right technique a swing of my arm would put the knife in the palm of my hand by centrifugal force. After I closed the knife it would magically disappear by just loosening my grip.

I have two leather jackets that I attached threaded sleeves through the underarm seam underneath the liners. I slit the liners just enough to allow the concealex sheath to go in and out, and then put a hem around the hole. The handle of my inverted Yari barely protrudes through the hole. I use a long allen wrench to install/remove the screws through the sheath into the sleeves. I used black sleeves for one jacket, and painted the others brown. It ends up with a modest forward cant and is easily accessible. The only thing I'd do different is leave more of the handle exposed for easier access, or make the opening bigger to get my hand through. It is not noticeable at all. I have a vest with a mesh liner that I can weave any sheath into wherever I want to carry it, and at any angle. This allows me to vary my EDC, but lighter knives work better. The mesh carries the load so it doesn't print through the thick cotton vest. The hardest part about either system was the hem. The watch pocket idea works good.

In the Masters of Defense video, Ayoob demonstrates an interesting way to mount a sheath in your back pocket...he sews grommets into the pocket and mounts the sheath with screws!

In terms of what I have done...well, I purchased a pair of Canadian military "wind pants", which are meant to be worn over regular pants...as such, the side pockets are merely openings to allow you to access the pockets of your regular pants...you'd be amazed what you can carry (and access) underneath if you wear the wind pants alone :)

I also have a Betz concealment jacket with built in holster and mag case (designed to not print or sag)...I'd like to get one made for knives as well :)

I always check for carrying capabilities on every piece of clothing I buy. Even if I have to modify it myself.;)

I have had several articles of clothing altered because I carried or used sharp tools, but I have never altered the clothing intentionally...

I did modify a belt pouch once.

I´ve had a tailor put a pocket inside the waist band to some of my slacks, basically as a "secret pocket" for cards and a couple of bills, but a small folder fits too.

I have a version 2.5 which has been replaced by the v3.0
Plan on getting a v3.0 leather also.
