If you have your blade stripped and reprofiled and satined, does that affect your warranty?

IMHO, it is the reprofiling that could be a problem. Grinding down the steel could overheat the blade and damage the temper. I assume that when I reprofile my blades, that I then own the warranty myself.

maybe someone from the shop will chime in here between drinks. I hate calling to bug them with my random question vomit.

It has been stated, a couple times. that if you grind/modify the blade warranty is gone.
If you strip it, that is OK,
but ghetto satin, re-profile or change the blade shape and the warranty is gone.
Change the scales that part of the knife is no longer warranted.

edit to add;
"From what I remember.
I do not speak for the company and the opinions are just mine."

Use that Google fu of yours :)

Does work done by Ban and Horton and such void the warranty?

ONLY if their modifications contribute to whatever failure your blade might experience. For example, if someone decides to grind their Battle Mistress primary bevel down to .005" before the edge and then their edge doesn't hold up under heavy abuse then the warranty on that portion of the knife would be void. Other unmodified portions of the knife like the handle, pommel, etc. are still covered.

We can only WARRANT the work that WE do.

Hope that helps,

JERRY:
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU FEEL YOU CAN SAY ABOUT THESE ISSUES THAT WOULD HELP US UNDERSTAND THEM BETTER?

That would be the most interesting info of all, obviously.
Here's the bottom line. . . . We're too drunk to keep up with fine print. . . So, if we make it, it will carry our simple guarantee. . . . If you break it, we'll fix it. . . . Period!. . .

Let's Drink!!!!

SpearHead,

You are a "Giver" my friend. . . a gosh darned giver!!! I think that Skunk's Porkdar has gone off and he is detecting that early Birds Beak Steel Heart that you own . . . . I think you better post a pic before he jumps on a dogsled and heads north!!!!!

Alpha,

If a discontinued Busse suffers major damage we will replace it with a knife that is valued at our original selling price. So, if you damage an original Silent Knight, that are now valued at approx. $1,200.00, we will replace it with a $287.00 blade, since that is how much we were originally paid for it. I think I would "baby" some of the older blades . . . but then you run the risk of them running away to find a more abusive home!!!! ;)

As for warranties I find it laughable when "Johnny-come-lately" issues a "lifetime warranty". After a few years in business the fine print starts to be added to the warranty, until finally the warranty isn't worth the hassle it would take to prove that you didn't abuse the knife, you didn't use the knife, and you still have your receipt and videotaped proof that the knife broke while either cutting kite string or while removing it from the sheath. Busse Combat doesn't care if you're the original owner or not. . . Why would that matter? We made it, we guarantee it. . . end of story!

to summarize: In principle you shouldn't send a knife back if your ground it paper thin, ground it in a way that visibly burned the edge, cut a notched in the spine that lead to it snapping at that location, or took a torch to it and welded something to the tang. If you know that your modification broke the knife - you should suffer the consequences, not busse.

However, if you do feel the necessity to send it in knowing your modification caused it to break, Jerry will very likely cover it anyways even though the warranty states it isn't covered.

What i'm going to have done is nothing so dramatic. I'm having a forum member strip the coating off my new Ak then give it a satin finish and a zero convex edge.

I seriously doubt that it will create any issue whatsoever, but i wanted to make sure it didn't invalidate my warranty in the event that a few years down the road i DID manage to do something with it that caused damage.

I know what Busse says about their warranty. However, there is also my warranty, which says that if I manage to damage a Busse knife deliberately or while doing something incredibly stupid with it, I am not about to make a warranty claim. Damage while doing something that a Busse knife is designed to do, then yeah.

And that, my friend, is WHY Busse can have such an excellent warranty... so many of the Hogs they sell to have outstanding ethics that they carry right along with their outstanding INFI blades

Here's to ya

Why not send it to Busse to strip it and have them satin finish it ?
The 100% you are covered with no question ?

It's a matter of cost. It will be dramatically cheaper (less than a third the cost) to have it done by an outside person.

Jerry's commitment to stand behind his work is the exact reason I have the "no regrets" attitude when I make purchase after purchase. I wish Jerry built cars too.

Have you not seen the Busse/Cadillac collaboration?

This is just the prototype. The production model will be made of INFI, and the grill and sides will have a zero convex edge

Oh, and it's nuclear powered (that's not a joke)
