Not sure weather to post here or hunting, but since it is a general purpose utility gun I post here
870 Left handed shotgun is only avialable in 12 ga 28 in vent rib barrel with remchokes I am partial to shorter barrels. Barrel cut to 18 3/4 in bead remounted and rethreaded for remchoke :D I'm going to shoot it a while but can see shortening the stock 3/4 to an inch and adding slings

My "GPUG" is somewhat similar: a 12 gauge 870 with an 18.5" barrel (a parkerized police rifle sight barrel that has been threaded for RemChokes) and a Remington synthetic reduced LOP "police" stock and forend. The combination is ugly as dirt - the short stock makes it look like a club - but it is easy to care for, and with no magazine extension or clamp(s) to worry about, it takes down the old fashioned way (i.e., quickly). I did add a QD swivel stud to the stock and the magazine cap, but the sling spends more time next to the gun than on it.

I have found it to be bit long and weighty for true handiness in casual woods-bumming and/or tossing in the trunk of the car, but with the modified tube in place and five assorted rounds in a buttstock shell carrier, it fulfills the "general purpose" role very well.

 Nice. I had my Mossberg 500 out today & was thinking of doing a project like this.

I think you can buy a barrel for a mossy 18 or20 in with choke tubes fron the factory. My sling studs came today it now has a sling . I have a inproved cylinder tube for it and the factory plug for hunting dove or deer here in ohio. I'm using the modified tube that came with the gun

I took my short left handed gun out ot the club and shot a round of trap, my first time at trap . I shot 17 of 25 and outshot half the guys I shot with that were using dedicated trap guns

Yesterday we had my 500 with a I think a 24" BBL. My cousin was using his 500 with a 20" BBL CYL bore. He was doing good with no choke out to about 25 yards. I have a 18.5" BBL CYL bore just didn't have it on. Kind of wish I had it with me. Just about 10 minutes ago I ordered the sling studs I can use with the short tube.
My son is outside pissing off the crows with a crow/hawk sounds. I think some crow hunting might be coming up. Only problem is I am not sure I want to eat them, Guess the boy will have to :D

Meat is blue I don't care for them . I have shot them at the landowners/farmer request . Shot them at one spot to the point they would not get lower than 60-70 yards found a couple boxes of 10 ga steel in #2's and bb's loaded some light loads gor game taught them 70 yards wasn't high enough
