Anyone know of anyplace that makes a weapon simliar to the one Chingoshgook carries in Last of the Mohicans? I know it's kind of a gunstock battle club, but most of those made now are cheap and crappy, and look like a rifle stock with a nail through it, which his didn't. Just wondering.

You should get in touch with Joe Szilaski. Browse for Szilaski Knives. If you want something historic and made by one of the best, he is the guy to talk to. Incredible workmanship and a nice guy too !!

According to this interview with Russell Means, the club was something they made up for the movie. It's based on something much smaller that was used for cracking nuts.

Im not sure where, but I have seen some. I did a search on msn on "native american crafts" and a few of the sites did have some similar clubs listed.

IIRC..... The L.O.T.M. war club was designed by the studio prop's dept. I don't remember if it was an in-house design or not, but Daniel Winkler later reproduced some of L.O.T.M. weapons. This led to a big stink between the Studio, Winkler, Randall King, Fighting Knives, and Blade Magazine over the origins of some of the movie's weapons, and the right to reproduce them. If anyone has Blade, or Fighting Knives from the early/mid 90's, you can look into it further:). Winkler, King, and I believe someone from the prop's dept were the made the weapons though.

Right now in the custom relm, I would look at the work of Winkler, and Skilaski, as they have produced the bulk of the design's I have seen. Also look through the Knives annuals, as many other makers have made them too.

HTH:D:).

Hi this is DaQo'tah

okay, I will admit it,

yes I too was facinated by the Gunstock War Club seen in the movie "The Last Of The Mohicans"

I rented the DVD and spent a lot of time studying the design, and soon I found myself in my shop banging out my own version.

Now even though Im a newby to weaponsmithing,I wanted a full tang weapon, but I also wanted to keep the wooden bulk for the sheer mass of it.

visit this web page and follow along as I struggled to achieve my deadly design.
