since this option is open to me (i think), i was just wondering what you guys thought about the basic 9 vs. the mr. mojo as far as utilitarian uses, mainly yardwork. specifically, cutting back woody bushes, and breaking down tree branches so they can fit in green waste barells.

on the other side of the uses spectrum, wich one would do better in haveing to break out of a car, or some other equally damaging activity? do you think that the micarta handle is a big advantage over resiprene c in use, or in the long run as far as durability under extreme conditions?

also, were you to have the majority of the handle stripped off, how would the basic 9 perform without the reciprence c? say, with a paracord wrap?

i personally think you should send me the mojo for "testing". then you can freely use the basic and sleep well at night. :D

i was thinking basic 9+basic 5 in replacement of the mojo... as a set, i would probably go with the basics, but since i have a SHBA, the 5 would be a drawer blade till someone needed it/i need a super beater. so im wondering wich is better in use for teh two large blades...

I would say the B9, had one I used for all that and it performed it superbly. I recently sold it and bought a SHE instead, and while that is a great knife, its not the same for chopping.

But that one is one sweeeet SHe version.......

Because the Mojos are increasing in price, some folks don't use em... Pity, because it's a great blade. A little recurve does wonders :) plus this is the knife that the E handle seems to work best on- IMHO. The cant plus the recurve really makes it a good chopper.
I used mine as a field knife for a while. I couldn't complain. I nicked up the blade a bit when I was digging target practice arrows out of a stump and searching for them in the grass (hit a few rocks) but Jerry and gang made it scary sharp again.
Now it's on SD duty until my BM-E needs a rest :)

For hacking your way out of a car, the Basic 9... someone had to do that with their Basic 9 a while back, a flipped Jeep I believe... the story was posted here.
I'm sure the Mojo could handle the job, and the "bottle opener" might even be effective for yanking nails, bending sheet metal, etc (not that I've had to yet!!)

I suspect you're thinking of the extrication chopping and cutting that was done with a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. Quite a story, to say the least.

Seth, to answer the Mojo vs Basic question, the Basics/Rat resiprene-c handles are still my hands-down favorite for long term whacking & chopping chores. The fact that they connect me to those amazingly tough INFI and SR101 blades just makes it all the sweeter. ;) :D

Also, below is a link to a thread that contains discussion on the Basic tang without res-c being used as a handle. Jerry had some comments on it. In that same thread I included an archived pic from Mike Turber's BB9 vs CS Trailmaster test that shows the BB9 with its handle cut off.

do you guys think that asking for a basic 9+basic 5 in trade for a mojo is crazy?
No, if it is the standard CG Mr Mojo.
