Moki?

I ran across a knife the other day which looked sort of like a Spyderco. It had a Zytel handle, Aus 8 blade, made in Seki, fully serrated, and says Moki on the blade.
Good? Bad? Can anyone tell me anything about Moki? Is it worth the $30?

I think Moki is the factory where many of the knives from Seki City are made, including Spyderco.

Imagine this but fully serrated.

It seems to be a company, although I can find very little on it.
The steel seems to be hot rolled the way that KAI's is.

There were 2 sizes of those Mokis. One was called the Zephyr and the other I forget. The MK-920 larger. And the MK-921 the smaller. I can honestly say that either one is a great using lockback that won' t break the bank for you. The honeycomb textured zytel handles on the none clip side are nicely rounded and actually large enough for a good hold. The blades are of a high (starting at the spine!) hollow grind that will cut quite well. Both have removeable black pocket clips. The single thumbstuds are reversible. There are thong holes for those who want them. I have carried either in the pockets without their clips. I have given some of the smaller models to female friends. And they have been quite happy with them. These class of lockbacks are only a few that I would recommend as being in the "lightweight, functional, (relatively) inexpensive" catergory. And I would recommend them over the comparable Spyderco Delicas and Dragonflys anyday.

In my experience Moki makes some of the best factory knives in the world right now. Many American brands use Moki for their knives made in Japan. Spyderco, William Henry, Baretta are just a few. Moki really seems to take fit and finish very seriously.

Moki, is a knife maker in Seki city Japan. they have made knives for spyderco, themselves and others, berreta I believe being another one. They make great quality knives!

Moki is a superior maker, they make the Sere 2000 for Al Mar as well. I have several older Japan knife mags that show some of their stag handle folders, unbelievably beautiful.

These knives are made in Seki city Japan, the same town that spyderco blades are made. Moki are hand made or hand fitted. They are some of the best quality you can get. The Moki 920 and 921 series may look like they have ordinary blades but there it a unique touch to them. The steel produce what are called micro serrations. If you look at the edge under a microscope you will see what looks like sharks teeth. They are always there no matter which device you use. I use the sharpmaker. Seki city is were samuri swords have been mase for the past 600 years or so.

Nakano has a good memory. The smaller one was called the Elite. Both models were designed by Hiroyuki Sakurai, the president of Moki Knives.

Spyderco imported the models for several years.

Funny, I recently went thru my older stash of folders in one of my ammo cans and found the Elite model! It' s name came right back into my memory as soon as I picked it up out of the can! And then I received an e- mail notice of reply to this thread by Sal! It must mean something. Think I' ll start carrying this small favorite of mine again.

I bought the Elite years ago and pretty much dismissed it as disposable because it didn't have a pocket clip and the blade appeared to be too fragile. I grabbed it out of the drawer last year when I was removing my tub surround. The installer had gone WAY overboard on the adhesive 30 years ago and I needed a throw away knife to do the job. That little bugger sliced and pried through that glue all day without a single chip and only needed a quick touch up to get it shaving sharp again. It now has my respect and a place of honor as my truck knife.

I replaced a door for a good friend last week. When I refused payment he handed me the Moki MK921. I am delighted with it. Would like to know more about the Moki folks.

Isn't the Spyderco Kiwi fully made by Moki? I read that once.
I played with a Moki in the shop. It was a truly lovely gentlemen folder made to a very high standard. In the end I bought a Fontenille-Pataud gentleman variant of a laguiole, but eventually I will buy a Moki as well. My collection wouldn't b sufficiently large if it doesn't include a Moki.

+1 What Paul said.

My favorite fixed blade knife is a Beretta Loveless drop point hunter. The quality of the hollow grind is fantastic. I'm told it was made by Moki.

Mine has the zytel handle. Now that I hear they have such great fit and finish I might have to pick up the quince-handled version as well.
