Earlier today I went to my secret stash of khukuris. (You know, the one under your bed with the dust bunnies) I was shocked to see mold growing on the sheath of my 21" Chitlangi. So I quickly took the rest of the khukuris out, and there was mold growing on half of the sheaths. My Gangaola's sheath was literally covered with mold. So I cleaned them up and gave them a good rub down. This was very surprising to me. I've had some of these khukuris for over five years, and this is the first time I've ever found mold on them, even though I've sometimes left them unattended for months at a time. So check your khukuris periodically, lest you find out that there really is a monster hiding beneath your bed.

I fondle mine enough that isn't a problem. I just hate wrestling with the dust bunnies...

Would that mean there's a danger of mould in the walls and floors of your home?

Is this a possible health hazard?

I have some relatives who are kinda mouldy and I didn't get sick the last time I saw them. I could be nothing.

Did one of your dust bunnies die under there or what???

.

I don't think there's any danger of mold growing elsewhere in the house. It's the darndest thing, I've never seen this before. I'm not too worried though. The reason I made this post is to remind others to check their khuks on a regular basis.

I don't think any of the dust bunnies died. Apparently they're impervious to mold. In fact I think they may have multiplied. Those dust bunnies sure are virile.

I expect that Ballistol would have prevented this...

Yvsa...have you got any mold? ;)

Your treated scabbards, that is?

Ballistol site :D

Uwinv the last I looked, about a month ago, I didn't have any mold, treated with Ballistol or not.:D

Had a scare last week or so ago though.
I was laying across the foot of our bed so Barb could rub some Icy Hot and Capsaicin into my low back and I happened too look at the Red Oak boards I had laying flat against the wall for possibly making a bow and I noticed what looked like mold growing between the wall and the boards.:grumpy:
I exclaimed to Barb, "What The Hell?!?!?!? (didn't use hell, used the word that gets attention QUICK.;) )
Barb Is That Mold Growing Along The Wall and My Boards?!?!?!?
That got her!!!! :D
Barb said, "WHAT?!?!?" and left my back rub and moved the top board.
And -Instantly- the g'damned little black piss ants started crawling all over every g'damned thing!!!!
They were in the process of starting a nest I guess but a can of RAID ended their best laid plans and killed every damned last one of them we saw moving!!!!
Haven't seen one since, but we moved the boards just in case.;)

Don't suppose Ballistol would have helped with the ants...:(

I woulda haulded out the .44 Mag and picked the little bastids off one-at-a time! You ever see what a .44 hollow-point does to an ant?

Smashes 'em flat...

Oh...wait...you meant to actually shoot them!

;)
