Hi this is my first post I am very new to knife making and have some dumb questions.
I purchased some 1” stock and am now realize it’s not wide enough for me to make the boning and fillet knifes I wanted to. His is because I want to make handles that would exceed 1” if I were to make full tang. It is also too thick I believe at .187. I was wondering if I can make some hidden tang factory looking knives with the plastic handles out of these but it looks like I would need some kind of injection mold to make those type of handles? Is there a low cost solution I am missing
Seriously thank you I’m lost

Extend the tang dimensions by wrapping, i.e get or modify some handle material to make it the same thickness as the tang of your knife. Cut the profile of the handle you want out of this piece and then cut the profile of the tang out of the same piece. This gives you an extension to your tang. Now you can cut out two slabs of handle material, one for each side and sandwitch this sll together.

Another method is to do a mortise handle. Tang recess is routed out of one slab, and the tsng is sandwitched between this and the other slab.

search youtube for mortise tang knife handles and wrapped tang knife handles

Yes I did order some 2” and 1.5” but I’m stuck with this 1” bar stock now and I’m not real sure what to do with it.

0.187" is going to be way too thick for flexible filet or boning knife unless you grind a ton of metal away.

Google "hidden tang handle" and "hidden tang frame handle" for info and ways to make a handle that's not a full tang handle.

Agreed that your stock is way too thick for the knife style you want (may be great for a dagger) but it can always be ground down. Here's a couple easy handle videos that will help you.

Wow thanks for the video links! Yeah any ideas of something I can make with these 1” and .187 thick bar stock would be appreciated!
